Doug Rader 2/2 1 week
c/o home
Those '69 'stros are one of my favorite memories when I was growing up. I was just discovering baseball that summer, and the '69 'stros where in the thick of the pennant race up until the last week of the season. Thus the phantom Series ticket block. That summer Houston's pitching staff set MLB strikeout records (yes, they had more than the Miracle Mets and anyone else in baseball at the time), with three starting pitchers with 200 or more k's. Rader had just become Houston's every day third baseman and showed off a gun at the hot corner and a penchant for hitting in the clutch. Rader would eventually win 5 Gold Gloves in an Astros uniform.
Rader was also probably the most colorful interview at the time, as well. One of my all time favorite players ever! Thanks Doug!
