I enjoy buying repacks because they're (relatively) inexpensive and you get a wide variety of cards. (And a bunch of 1987/1988/1989 Topps.) The rack packs advertise a game-used in one out of four packs, but I never expected to find a:

1999 Mark Mulder Just Autographs (Modesto A's)

I got a card with an $8 BV in a five-dollar pack! Maybe Mulder had some bad luck in the health arena, but he definitely was a great pitcher for the better part of a decade, which is far more than most can say!

I bought one of those 100 ct. re-packs that advertise a "hit" in one of four packs and got so many 1989 Topps commons that I've sworn off re-packs forever.
Also, if you weigh the $5.00 + tax you have to drop on one of those packs versus what you can snag on E-Bay or sportlots.com for $5.00 or $6.00 it makes those re-packs bad purchases in my opinion.

You are definitely right. I buy them on occasion because I get a lot of fun out of those random cards. I love the advice you provide; I've poked around Sportlots but haven't bought anything and eBay shipping fees kinda turn me off of making single-card purchases. Part of the problem is that my collecting goals still aren't really firm. I like Tiger stuff and collect the boring Topps base sets, but haven't landed on further ambitions. (2007 Sweet Spot GU? I dunno.)

I suppose my response is somewhat confessional, but isn't the fun most of why we do this?
