I have parcial sets from the following(baseball)years:
61 Topps
62 Topps
63 Topps
64 Topps
&
65 Topps
I'll never complete(at least in this life)all of them
and maybe none of them. I know there are other
collectors in the same dilemma and maybe if a group
of us were to join together and each was consentrate
on 1 or maybe 2,we might actually be abe to finish it/them off.
.....
I'd like to work on the 64 set myself and would gladly trade
the other years to get it done.A nice VG+ to EX set would
be just fine! Anything less would be too little and anything
more,well,just isn't practical.
From the other years, the cards I would be able to offer are
base and high #s,stars and semis with conditions ranging from
VG+ to EX/MT.
..........
I doubt this idea will generate alot(if any)interest, but if you
think about it,it might just make some sense.
It sure makes sense to me anyway.
.....
What do you think,
Ken

That can all be accomplished in existing forums.

I get the impression that a majority of the collectors on this site like newer stuff. Those that do collect and trade vintage probably end up connecting eventually anyway.

I don't think a vintage area is off base though because that is a unique area of collecting. Most collectors don't want to or won't trade vintage cards for new. Vintage for vintage is most common.

I'd suggest scanning ebay though for some reasonably priced lots. You may have to snag some dupes, but there seems to be some fair deals out there and that helps get the job quicker. The stars will just need to be an infrequent special purchase.

I recently took a tangent from my "normal" collecting interests and sought out a few vintage cards I have wanted for a while, but never got for whatever reason. The 55 Topps Mays arrived already and the 54 Topps Mays should be here soon. I did a BIN today on a nice presentable, but lower grade 1954 Topps Berra and hope to see that by weeks end and the last one had not been secured yet, so it will remain a mystery (just in case!).

Didn't(really)expect to find many(if any)
vintage set collectors who see it the way
I do.
To all those who have worked on these types
of sets for years and probably will continue to
do so for years,I"truely"wish the best of luck.
It was just an attempt to(maybe)actually get
something done that otherwise might never happen.
Multible trades by multible collectors to multible collectors
with a more fucused approach might be a plus.
It also would be much cheaper then, card shows, ebay, etc.
But I guess not,
Ken

Ken,

I really do not understand what you are saying. What you are stating is what I already do. I have bought many "lots" of vintage cards like mrmopar suggests and then I concentrate on one or two years and use the other vintage cards for trade bait. Most vintage trades are with a smaller number of people both here on the bench and outside of the internet.

Are you suggesting adding a new forum? Or am I missing something.

Jeff

Hey Ken,
I have a few extra 64 topps I can trade for 60s cards that I need for my sets.
LMK what 64 topps you need and I will see what I can do. I might even break up the 64 set I am working on to get EXMT or better cards I need for my sets.
LMK
Thanks,
Ron Hanna

WTH does that mean ???????

How you see what ?

What exactly is it you want "to get done" ?

  I'll try to figure out what that last one means after I have a few drinks:eek:

Actually,I thought your initial reply
was a bit condenscending.
Been around here too long for a reply
like that.Maybe we both could use a few drinks.
......
Perhaps it would be better to forget about the thread.
The idea of a group helping each other, going beyond the
conventional 1 on 1 trading just won't work.
Maybe it's too complicated,
Ken

If I remember correctly there is a site that does the type of things you are talking about. It is called "Vintage Card Traders" and what they do is just send each other cards they are looking for. I do not think there is any trading that goes on. But I also think that condition is not a big factor either. Some of the cards have the original owners name written on the front or back. I never got into any sites like that because I do not have a ot of vintage to send to other memebers. And I also want my sets to be in at least ex condition.

I can understand your frustration with trying to build those vintage sets. I am slowly working on my 1960,1971 and 1972 sets. Made some good progress at the Shriners show this weekend. My advice would be to just keep plugging along. I realize that I have some sets that I will probably never complete. But you never know maybe I will find the cards I need somewhere but maybe not.

One can only hope.
