I figured this would be a neat discussion. Honestly since I've been getting rid of my dupes in my PC I've noticed I really hate finding more dupes. I have 8 or more dupes of some autos that I have to sell online and it's just time consuming and annoying at this point.

My one biggest pet peeve would be buying a card for my collection that I already have. In the last two months I've spent about $15 a piece on two Sheffield autos /10 that I already had because I forgot to look or misread my list. Now this is my own fault however it's still a pet peeve of mine just obtaining the cards I already have.

Anyone else?

I will bite. Generally my hobby involves enjoyment and there are few irritations, but when there are, it usually involved another party.

One thing that does bug me somewhat is when someone will hold an item hostage. by this I mean they price something well above reasonable market value in hopes of landing that 1 sucker...Uh, i mean buyer, who absolutely has to have it and will pay whatever it takes. Burbank Cards has been a shining example of this tactic for years. Ebay is filled with similar sellers.

I recently sent an offer to a seller who i felt had overpriced 2 similar 1/1 cut cards. they are similar to Signa-Cuts, with obnoxiously ugly cuts. The guy started the cards at $150 each and has slowly brought them down to around $120 after a year maybe. Of course, they remain unsold, because he has them overpriced, regardless of what he things. Press plate auto/GU are selling for less!! I offered him $120 for the pair, which I still feel is within reason and was called a jacka**. i did nothing more than state my reason for what I expected the seller to see as a low ball offer and asked the question. I was polite. He was not.

On the trading front, it might be in this form. I collect player Y. You collect player X. i have a rare card of player X. I won't trade it to you unless you have something similar of Y. Now plenty of people will tell you that this person is just protecting their valuable card and they can choose to trade however they wish, and that is true. But it is still holding the item hostage. io could trade something similar for player Z that this person you in turn trade elsewhere and get what they need in the end. the trade example is harder to illustrate than selling, but most will get my point.

Trading for a rare Rice paralell and finding out it is a common version.....has happened too many times to count. Even COMC classifies many paralells the wrong way!

I'm curious. Did you contact them and report anyu of the errors? I had 2 experiences with them that i felt they handled very professionally.

the first was sending me a wrong auto. i bought and paid for a leaf Eisenreich auto and I got a Felix Crespo or something like that. When i went back to the listing, it showed the card they sent me. I emailed and explained that I was positive it was Eisenreich when i bought it and apparently they found the error. I did in fact buy an Eisenreich. They bought back the wrong card and sent me the correct card.

The other issue i had was that I bought a classic draft Dreifort auto that I thought was certified. it was a ttm/ip. They actually refunded the money and let me keep the card.

I bet if you work with them in the future, they will make it right.

One of my biggest pet peeves is being able to actually get the cards I want. The 1972 Topps set is really frustrating. The high numbers are pretty hard to find but even at shows the are priced at nearly full book. I understand that people do not want to trade vintage cards for the newer cards but some people need to realize that other people do not want to do that either. And maybe it is just the cards I have for trade but trades are getting harder and harder to make even on this site. I love the "I only collect HOF autos but only have 1988 Topps to trade" PM's.

I can somewhat relate. I have basically nothing to trade and only look to buy. Although suggesting the option to buy I think makes things easier, but less traditional for the hobby and site. I also have cornered the Sheffield market for the most part and search ebay, thebench, sports card forum, and various other sites... now I have little to nothing to trade for or buy! :(

I figure this site is fairly finite when it comes to trade opportunities. Sure, new members come along, but at what rate do new members come and stick. I've noticed a lot of these trade sites get a fair number of new members who sign up and then never do a thing with the membership.

Trading with the same people, especially those that don't continually get new stock or product, comes to an end fairly quick.

I guess that is why I have never really embraced the trading part of the hobby since I was a kid and all the neighbors collected and traded. I know not one single person that collects who is close enough to be a trade partner w/o using the mail system, let along a few. I could probably join a local collector club, but that is the local version of a trade site. Eventually you have everything you need from the group and have nothing more to offer them...unless you are all buying new stuff all the time.

Making time to devote to my collection. Rather than spend the time I should with my cards, I spend most of my free time here or searching through Sportlots.

Also, I go through spurts where I have cards lying around for weeks at a time and not making the time to list them on my database. They end up piling up and get in the way of other things in my home office.
