What years Topps are considered "Vintage years"?

I think vintage is generally considered to be 1980 and older, 1981 marks the beginning of Fleer and Donruss regular issue baseball cards and I have never heard 1981 cards referred to as "vintage" because of this particular factor. The addition of Fleer and Donruss to the mix seems to have mainstreamed baseball cards and they seem to be much more plentiful starting in 1981.

I think pre 1973 marks the vintage era where cards become much tougher to find generally speaking. While 1973-1980 still are considered in most circles to be vintage, they seem to be more "modern vintage" for the lack of a better term. I always felt that 1951, 1973, 1981, 1986/7 and 1993/4 are key dates for various eras of sports cards.

I'm glad to know this, since I was born in 1981 and would not like to be thought of as "vintage" quite yet!!

God Bless,

I agree with 99% of your thoughts, I would probably think the downturn in production on your last date is probably more 1995ish but it's just my opinion.
