Whats with the Ultra-slim Toploaders?

Has anyone seen these Super-thin Toploaders?
The ones that wont even hold a card?
I've recieved some of these in trades recently and wonder if they are new or have I been lucky until now.
I've had trouble Figuring out which side was the Top or bottom because the slot is so slim.
I'm using them to "Sandwich" cards together.
I'm assuming these are used for gaming cards(magic, poke'mon etc)?

What gives?

Glad I'm not the only one to notice....bought a box at Walmart the other day and had to loosen them up by opening and stretching them with my fingers. Not ideal, but if you put in a thin plastic sleeve, it will do!

I've found a use for the Slim Toploaders! Topps Archives Sticker cards fit in them really nicely.
