why do people prefer PAYPAL gift vs regular payment? I just started using it recently. what are the advantages of wanting to get paid via paypal gift? could it be to possibly avoid having to pay taxes on end of year tax bill? (or do you still have to pay taxes on paypal gift transactions) im very curious on the answer to this, so someone respond with some thoughts on this! thanks

Because if you send paypal gift, the seller does not have any paypal fees taken out and gets the full amount of the payment.

There are two reasons I do not like to send paypal gift. One, it's dishonest and you are basically defrauding paypal. They could conceivably take away your account for this, though I've never heard of it happening. Two, if you pay with gift payment you have no buyer protection through paypal. If you pay with regular paypal "goods" then you can get money back from paypal if the seller never sends you anything.

i never knew that, like i mentioned above, i just started using paypal gift because a TON of sellers are now requiring that they get paid via paypal gift.

i have used "gift" a few times quite a while ago but have stopped using it, and never have asked for any payments in "gift" form.

but i'm curious, why do they even offer it if they know they are losing money with that method? lol

I believe they do take out a fee for using the paypal gift....but its not the full paypal fee. They offer the paypal gift because some people do use it to send christmas or birthday money to their children or friends. Best regards, David

Just because they are requiring it does not mean you should agree to it, for the reasons stated above.

Hmm, I would hope they're not requiring gift payment on this site since it's against the rules: http://www.thebenchtrading.com/thebench/faq.php?faq=bench_policies#faq_paypal_gift

I have been on other sites where many sellers do insist on gift, sportscollectors.net springs to mind. This was about a year and a half ago, don't know if anything has changed there.

Most people on SCN expect a GIFT payment. I've just build an extra .50 into my negotiations and send them 2.50 instead of 2.00 for example. No one ever complains. Basically sellers are asking you to pay their fees for them, personally I think it's wrong.
