I have another bubble mailer of random cards that I'd like to giveaway to one of my fellow Benchies, but I have 2 simple steps that must be met to be eligible for the contest. If no winner by Sunday night, then closest pick will be winner. In case of a tie, I will flip a coin.

1. Pick a number 1 to 50

2. If you could buy only 1 card and money wasn't an issue, what would it be? Even though, I'm mainly a baseball card guy, I think I would seek out a Bill Russell BGS 10 (If one existed).

Thanks,
Billy

Can I second the Babe Ruth?? AWESOME!

Topps had a single card signed by St. Pope John Paul II years ago that sold for $5,000 plus, or maybe a holy card signed by him? Would be awesome to have a Saint's autograph!

I will choose #7, please and thank you so much!

God Bless,

Kevin

I really like Billy's choice but I am going to go in the opposite direction. I tend to favor football and basketball over baseball but I would go for a high grade 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle because it is the crown jewel of modern era (post war) sports cards.

If I were to just go strictly on nostalgia I'd buy a high grade 1965 Topps football set. But for single cards my choice is the 52 Topps Mantle (boring of a choice as that is).

I'm sure MrKnicks would love to go in a time machine back to his general area in 1986 as there was a small card store in Chittenango that broke a case of 1986-87 Fleer basketball cards and put together a ton of sets and was selling the base and the sticker sets together for $5.00. He must have had at least 50 of them. I only bought one set as I thought they would be worthless. I almost bought all of them as I was a basketball guy but I never thought they'd amount to anything. How wrong I was! I'm sure there was Gem Mint 10 Ewing RCs in that massive lot along with some other HOF RCs named Barkley, Malone, Olajuwon and some guy named Mitchell Jordan I think.

I'll go with 10 since that seems to be the grade we are all dreaming about. Thanks for another fun contest!!

I will go with #19

I would like to get the 1963 Topps Pete Rose rookie. I am a set builder and I think I might be able to complete the 1963 set but the Rose rookie is a killer.

If only!

What part of NY do you reside in?

#33

As I young lad I roamed the Highbridge section of the Bronx collecting deposit soda bottles. Every Sunday I would take my 1 dollar bill or so and walk the 3 blocks
down to Yankee Stadium. That $1 got you a bleacher seat (.50) in center field, a .25 cent hot dog and 10 cent coke. Depending on the schedule I would either save the quarter for the next Sunday or buy a couple of packs of 5 cent cards. So watching #7 for those years I'd have to have the Mantles.

Thanks Benny

Mr Knicks I live about an hour SE of Manlius. We simply call that area "the Mean Streets".

Anytime I drive by that building in Chittenango where I passed up all those 1986-87 Fleer sets, I just shake my head in dismay. I'm not sure what is in the building now but it was a bottle and can redemption center for a bunch of years after the card store went out.

I don't want to say I know more about the history of card shops and shows in the Syracuse area but my memory goes back a long way. I'm kind of like an O.G. of Syracuse card knowledge. LMAO!! There used to be at least 30 card stores in the greater Syracuse area and now I only know about Southpaw way up in Cicero. Shoppingtown may still have one and I think there is one in Destiny and downtown but that is a minute number compared to the 80s and 90s. There seemed to be a card store on every corner and a show every week......which may be one of the reasons why the hobby is in the sad shape it is in today.

My two biggest mistakes in not making a card buy both involved basketball cards and occurred in the Syracuse area. The other "mess" up was a few years before the 1986-87 Fleer mistake at the Second Sunday Card show on State Fair Blvd. I had the opportunity to buy many hundreds of wax packs of 1980-81 Topps Basketball or 1980 Topps Football for 2 1/2 cents each. Which one did I choose, me being the big genius with the big brain and all? The one with the Phil Simms and Otis Anderson RCs of course!!! A whole station wagon full of them! Who needed RCs of those Bird and Magic guys anyways? Just call me Mr Speculator. Someone made a pile of money off of my two "great" decisions.

I also invested heavily in a buggy whip manufacturer some years back but that is another story for another time.

give me 17 please....

and i'd go with either "THE" t-206 honus wagner (the gretzky/mcnall one , of course , unless a better condition specimen surfaced) as an all-time selection or track down the 2003-04 exquisite jordan/lebron dual logoman auto for a modern option....

I'll try 25 again

I would buy a 1935 National Chicle Bronko Nagurski RC. As of now I need RC's of 68 NFL Hall of Fame players (or at least the players who have a rookie card) to have them all. And though I will probably never reach even 90% of the total number, having the Nagurski as the jewel of my collection would be okay with me.

Thanks for another contest Billy!

Very cool card choices and I like the little back stories as to why you would want the cards.

No winner yet.

Numbers Picked: 6, 7, 10, 17, 19, 20, 25, 26, 33, 43, 48

Thanks,
Billy
