Woooaaahhh...Heyward Double Sparkle

My plan is to list it on ebay but I've always thought it's better for auctions to end on a weeknight as opposed to a weekend so I think I will list it on Tuesday...I know I could do a shorter auction but I think this one needs a week of exposure...I'll post the link here when it's listed...

I took a bunch of pictures of myself holding the card to send in for the pin. When I have some time I will find the goofiest one and send it to Topps. My thought is that if Topps uses these pictures for any marketing then mine wouldn't really be acceptable...plus it's also kind of a knock on Topps that ridiculous promotions are rewarded with ridiculous entries...

This is the text of my message:

Greetings Sparkle Bounty Prize People:

I pulled the Heyward double sparkle out of a box from my LCS...I have attached a picture of myself with the card, but I am really better looking in person. I just don't seem to photograph well.

Thanks for the swell contest! And, additional thanks for not making any double sparkles of the guys I collect...I already have a hard enough time with all the inserts, colors and serial numbered cards you produce!

Best Wishes,

Quite the wisenheimer, I know, I was feeling a little cheeky when I wrote it...

I was with you up until THIS.

You pulled a card which you'll likely make several hundred dollars off of BUT even though you plan on selling it you also plan on getting the "ridiculous reward" and ridiculing Topps at the same time. "Wisenheimer" or "cheeky" is NOT how I would describe what you're doing ! "Classless" however comes to mind.

Shame on you !

That's fine, and from the information provided I understand your opinion. However, I was clowning when I wrote it and never sent anything and really don't care about the pin. My idea was intended to light-heartedly express my distaste for this promotion, which I find to be entirely out of the reach of 99.99% of collectors. How is this type of promotion helping the hobby? Does this bring more people into the hobby? A new generation of collectors? Probably not. I am an avid collector and never even heard about this until I pulled the card. This promotion serves Topps and likely, Ebay, not us. Topps will have a nice arbitrary amount to write off and ebay will likely facilitate the exchange of the majority of these cards. Whether or not I make "several hundred dollars off" this card remains to be seen...considering I have already spent around $250 on Series 2 it will certainly bring me close to even again!

From my experience I avoid saturday and monday.

Hahaha! Just imagine...a true 0-of-0!

Yeah, in a way I miss those 2005 Polo Grounds and Studio Portraits...and those 2004 Leaf Exhibits too!

Good luck !

I would suggest adding the info about the ring.
something like ? ........

"winner of this card is also immediately eligible to receive a rare limited edition ring designed solely for the sparkle program. Just take a pic of yourself with the card, send it to Topps, and the ring is your"

how big the picture is and u didnt put your name across it i wonder if someone could pull it off ebay make a fake card and hold it and send it to topps? should of put ur name across it...or something

Good luck on the auction....I would put the card number in the description...don't think there is any need for "super rare"
JMO
Robert

Thanks Robert...the card number is in the listing, I thought most people would search "double sparkle" rather than "510" and that those searching "510" would be looking to "steal" a mis-listed sparkle card rather than put out for a properly listed one...Does that make sense?

I agree about the superlatives but I couldn't help myself! I even added "Ridiculously Rare" in the body of the auction! I just wanted to put something more than the basics (although the card speaks for itself), so I put in the nonsense...at least I didn't mention that it's an ebay 1/1 because I pulled it on June 22nd and Heyward wears #22...:p

You mean the pin, right? I thought about it but was trying to get to the beach when I was listing it...I didn't think that mentioning the consolation prize would increase the bidding much...IMO this is for someone after the bat or a Heyward collector...Thanks for the suggestion! Rob

Perhaps, but it might detract from the quality of the image and even if someone does use it, it won't really diminish the value of this card. Topps may be fooled by imposters but they could never deny the actual owner...I am sure Topps will require something more substantial to receive the auto'd bat. I never went for the pin but even if I did then what's to stop the buyer of this card to also go after the pin? Couldn't I take a picture of my neighbor with the card as well and he gets one? Or the paper boy? I'm not really sure how many pins Topps plans on giving away...not sure how many double sparkle cards were made...maybe 5 or 10 of each? Topps really hasn't provided too much information about this promotion.

Yes, I meant the pin.

Consolation prize ? You're supposed to amplify good points and downplay "defects" when selling. It's NOT a consolation prize, it's a PLUS to having the card. I've never been hurt by giving potential buyers as much info as possible. There could quite possibly be Heyward collectors that know nothing about the promotion. But whatever, enjoy your time at the beach.
