WOW! Postage increases today on bubble envelopes was outrageous!

I've been using PIRATE SHIP for quite awhile now.....Sent out BMWT today 7x5x1 @ 4oz. for $4.41
Same exact dimensions went out two weeks ago and was $4.14 also through PIRATE SHIP

Even Pirate Ship went up a little....still better than going to the PO, wasting gas, then waiting in line, having the postal person weigh and measure the BM and being charged over a $1.50 more now, when you could just stay home and DIY it.
You can also use PayPal shipping to get a similar discount.

if your bubble mailer is thin enough to fit through a mail slot then you can request to ship it "flat rate" which is much cheaper. You won't get a tracking number but the package will arrive about the same time it would if you sent it 1st class or priority.
My po doesn't do that anymore. They used to have this little tool with different sized slots. If it fit through the smaller of the two then I could ship it as a "large envelope" without tracking. If it was too thick then it had to be ground advantage. They have stopped this now though and now it doesn't matter if it is thin......if it is rigid then it has to go ground advantage. I used to send the oversized cards like this for 2 years but around 4 months ago it has changed so I will no longer be trading those unless it is a much bigger trade.

Mailed 3 bubble envelopes this morning. Three had just 2 cards and one had just a single card. Every envelope for 3 day tracking cost over $7. The total for all 4 was $29.30.

Don't know about anyone else but I can't afford $7 shipping. How is everyone else going to deal with this? I'd love to hear your thoughts.
Yeah even at $5 a pop was expensive, I personally feel the card industry has swamped our USPS and they know it…so they jack up prices on purpose!!!!
Small time sellers and traders get pushed away…low end PWE trades are only route these days sadly…

Thanks Josh

Compared Paypal shipping with Pirate shipping and they are the same price for an item I just packaged up. $4.35 with each site compared to $7.10 at the PO.

Ridiculous!!!!

If the PO can afford to discount with these sites, then they should be able to match the same cost at the counter.

I think their labor costs are through the roof, probably costs them at least $3 labor/overhead per transaction. So they probably save money with discounting.

Not sure of the bubble mailer measurements that i use but up to 4 cards penny sleeved and in a top loader normally runs me about $2 without tracking because they fit thru some type of of cardboard cut out thing .. if interested i will get more info from the lady at my local PO

My post office Czar (Master) will not allow that because the bubble envelope is not bendable but the lady that works the window most of the time allows it. I try to mail items when she is working and not the postmaster. I've even argued the fact that every other PO across the country sends them that way so now if she finds them, she adds postage due on them.

I use PAYPAL Shipstation and or the KIOSK at local USPS. PWE under 1o still is single stamp and under 2oz 1.10 or something. for tracker I pray to stay under 4oz and is 4-5 dollars continental. Any increase atop this BS already will end my interest in trading. most of us trade base, inserts or current stars and RCs. cards are .10 - 1.00 at shows... paying 4 to 10x to ship a card will be the final stake in sites like this I am afraid.

Unfortunately the higher prices hasn't helped their efficiency. I mailed some cards on 6/28 and they haven't shown up yet. I was sent some cards from PR on 6/27 and I haven't received those yet either.

You guys know that you get the discounted rate on the USPS site, right? Just create an account and mail through them. I mail all my stuff through them and it is between 4 and 4.50 since the rates increased.

@peaceandlove I used to fight with my postage workers as well. One would charge me this; the next would double it for no apparent reason- it's obvious the USPS training program could use some consistency.

Now, if I send PWE, I buy the non-machinable stamps from the website (1.22 each if memory serves correctly) and write non-machineable on the envelope so they can't complain. And a lot of the EBay sellers are going to those rigid cardboard envelopes and going with the non-machinable rate if its under an ounce or two. I've had as many as 12 cards shipped in those for just over a dollar. I think that's the wave we are all going to be riding soon- you can send roughly 30 cards in three of those for less then or as much as one 3 ounce bubble mailer.

I've been using this from USPS which saved me at least $1.00 off.

I've been thinking about this and I believe I am convinced USPS is heading for a "no human interface" model which directs the public to kiosks, drop boxes and online discounters (buy and print you own labels and stamps) like Pirate Ship and PayPal. They will still deliver mail and try to take on more "last mile" deliveries for Amazon and UPS. They have to do something to try and abate their corporate death spiral.

Non-Machineable is high-way robbery too. Most of the time it still goes through the sorting machine.

I'm not that far away from the PO so I always hand deliver the nonmachinable envelopes and the clerk post marks them immediately.

Not just my trading days could be done but collecting all together....
Went into COMC and had 82 cards in my cart, went to checkout and postage alone was $19.99 Bulk!!!!

You can buy a stamp that says "non-machineable" from the USPS website. I buy those and then also write it on the envelope at the bottom.

@mechjo16 @reickholt

These envelopes have been going through the sorters for years- the only reason I do this is so that if the sorter catches the top load and ruins the card, they will be liable; given that my stamp says "non-machineable" on it. And to clarify, it is not crossed out on the real stamp. Not sure why the USPS shows it that way unless they think people will print their own? They are 1.22 each so not bad at all.
