So, it appears that I missed yet another Hot Dodger prospect. I have been trying to keep up with Dodger autographs of all of the young players or recent acquisitions. This is not a top priority for me, so I squeeze them in around my standard buying habits. I obtain a fair number of $1-3 certified autos of Dodger players by buying early whenever possible. Most will probably bomb, but since i collect any Dodger autographs, I will want one of each regardless. The list is always littered with the likes of Eovaldi, Wall, Lindbloom, Gould, Lee, Cruz, Sellers, etc

Enter Puig. He is the hottest thing around it seems these days. I remember trying for one of those Valiant autos before he took off. It might have even been one #'d/25, I can't remember now. It reminded me of those Donruss Crusade autos from a few years back. Fairly gaudy, but still something different. I had no idea who the guy was. I want to say it went for around $25 at the time, which was too much for a young prospect in my mind. I didn't pursue him any further at that point and now they are three and four figures!

Partially sour grapes here, because I probably wouldn't sell mine if I had one and now I will not be buying one, but I have to assume that the $1000s currently being spent on his stuff is going to disappoint many. Even if he goes on to be an AS, his stuff almost certainly has to go back down in a hard way. I always wonder who is buying up cards like this at crazy prices when a guy only has a handful of games under his belt, which I think is a major gamble either way. Puig auto for $600 or a plethora of HOFer autos for the same money...

Anyway, I will wait patiently and perhaps in 2-3 years i'll be adding my Puig auto for more than I'd like but at a fair price given his status (i.e. Kemp, Kershaw, etc) or perhaps i'll be getting it for a couple bucks after he busts or makes his way to another team and doesn't have the stats to match his current hot streak. I guess I just hope he is not the next rookie SP auto nightmare like Pujols, ichiro, Strasburg, etc where the prices never come down far enough for a collector with no agenda other than to have all Dodger autos can afford to buy one. in a way, I look forward to seeing what happens to the Puig market over the next year.

Gotta love prospecting...NOT!

I just have to know. Why provide a link to your photobucket and have it private and need a pass word to see it?

I generally keep all of my online "accounts" private. Those that need to see it can (like bench members who may want to and see my signature), those that don't (random browsers) can't. I really don't use it for much other than a storing place for scans right now. i am not actively trading and have not been motivated enough to create a site to highlight my collection, which I would eventually like to do.

Give it five or ten years. Between him signing for a lot more product, time to see how his career develops, and people moving on to the next big thing, odds are in your favor of getting an autograph at a much better price

His auto in the lucky redemption card number 4.....Are going for $$$$. His commons cards in the bowman mini, bowman 100 are as high as $50.00. Best regards, David

i KNOW. His non-signed card that looks like a 90 leaf is selling for over $100!! Not my game, so I will wait. if I never get it, i never get it. I still don't have Noe Munoz, so what is another hole in the wantlist anyway!

Hes in the 2013 pro debut....packs were about $3.25 and someone from my local hobby store ...pull the puig card with only 8 packs. Best regards, David

i remember in the 1990's collectors were drooling over cards of phenoms like jerome walton, todd van poppel, kevin mass, brien taylor, mike kelly, sam horn. if you listened to scouting reports back then, all these players were the next mickey mantle or nolan ryan and were all first ticket HOFers! now there cards can be bought for pennies on the dollar. puig is the flavor of the month right now. next year there will be another "cant miss HOFER" who has played in a handful of games. my advice is too wait, because as soon as national league pitchers make adjustments to him, he might not be as great. i have been wrong before and maybe he is the next roberto clemente or albert pujols or willie mays. I hope he is, because the game needs great players like that, but i have seen so many players come and go (and wasted a crap load of money on the net "big thing" like mentioned above, i would rather invest my money buying a bunch of HOF autograph for the price of one puig auto. just my 2 cents worth.
