Dick Groat 2/2 1.5 weeks (1953 Topps RP & IC)
320 Beech Street

It's always puzzled me why he's not in the HOF, as I do think he indeed belongs. He didn't have Ernie Banks HR numbers, but he was the most dominant shortstop in the game during his day. He was also a cornerstone of the World Series Championship teams in '60 & '64, and won the league MVP in '60. Just how good was he? When he came to the majors straight out of college in '52 he was the Pirates leading hitter.

Think about that for a moment. Phil Rizzuto and *** Wee Reese are in the Hall. I hope to see a Dick Groat plaque one day in Cooperstown. It's long over due.

Congrats
He should be in the hall, if he was on the yankees or dodgers (rizzuto, reese) he probably would be already.

Congrats! I agree he should be in the Hall of Fame. Every time I go to a Duke basketball game, his jersey is the first one in the line of retired jerseys. He is in the Duke Hall of Fame and I believe in the NC Sports Hall of Fame.

Plus, he is an all around nice guy and will sign TTM pretty regular. Good one to have!

Congrats
Nice pick up
Job well done

He should be in the Hall of fame. He was an All American in 2 sports at Duke Both baseball and Basketball. He also was one of the first to play play 2 pro sports also in baseball and basketball with the Pgh Pirates and the Fort Wyne Pistons . He is also a great person as I know him very well. His father and my father were very good friends.

Yes he was. Chuck Conners, the Rifleman, also played both major league baseball and basketball (and is credited with the first broken backboard on a dunk, as well), but didn't have the athletic career of Groat. He was amazing in both sports, basketball and baseball, and I agree with you...he is a heck of nice man! I didn't know his father also knew yours. Wow! It truly is a small world.
