I am thinking of buying a lot of Jeter cards that I don't already have (well there are a few dupes, but only a couple). BV is about $550 and the lot includes ten GU and some nice inserts. I can pick up the lot for a little over $250. Do you think it's worth it?

It's hard for me to trade right now since my cards are all in the States, so buying is really my only option... and since shipping here is relatively expensive, I think picking up the cards as a lot is smarter. I just am unsure if a little less than half BV is decent, I have been out of trading and stuff for so long.

Hello dear been a long time

Tell me what BV you have on the Mora black press proof and the soriano master craftsmen pls

2004 donruss

Iain, my tradelist is totally inaccurate. I have those cards but they are still in the States and I don't have access to them. I have basically nothing here, that's why I am buying!

I knew we had a member in Italy, but I didn't know we had one in good old Deutschland! (I took German in high school and a little in college...I wish I were stronger with the language.)

Without knowing which GU and inserts you mean, I don't think that you would be making a crazy deal. Like another poster said, Jeter and Pujols et. al. are the gold standard and are kinda like currency on trading boards and they often sell for extremely close to BV. Further, unless something C-R-A-Z-Y happens, Jeter is a first-ballot Hall-of-Famer and I don't think I'd bet on those same cards getting any cheaper...ever.

Hey Loren.............I would say go for it! Impress all the Germans with your Jeter collection while over there! I might have one you need, a factory set Red #'d to /245........................PM me if interested.................Thanks..............Mike

Piecing the cards you need one or a few at a time can be expensive and time consuming. If you have a chance to get a bunch in one shot, then it is usually worth considering.

"Is that the best use for that money right now?" is the question I would ask. If you have the extra money and enjoy collecting enough to spend it on cards, then go for it.

Often those larger lots can be an even better deal, because most buyers don't need everything and spending the money on dupes isn't worth it to many. If you can flip the dupes, even better for you.

I bought a lot of 400+ 1978 Topps auto'd cards but I had a bunch already, maybe 1/3-1/2 of the lot. There were some really good ones I needed and a solid selection overall. However, because I love the set and don't mind dupes, I got a screaming deal overall. Those types of things will always have a decent resale value, so I felt good about pulling the trigger on the deal.

Thanks for all the opinions! I am going to go ahead with it, I have been working quite a bit (freelance English lessons) so I have a little extra money and I think it's worth it, especially since piecing it together would likely cost a lot more. As you guys said, Pujols and Jeter are the standard... can't wait to get back to the States to my collection... have quite a few Pujols rookies I want to trade for Jeter!

The question is do you think it is worth it? If you do, then go for it. But remember the golden rule:

If there's ever a doubt, then don't!

I may have a few Jeters I could sell as well if you're interested at all. I am in the process of selling 99% of my baseball collection.
Shoot me a PM if you're interested :)

I think it's worth it, but I have been out of the hobby so long that I needed a little reassurance! :D

Then do it, my good man, do it! Like so many before have posted, Jeters are good as gold on the boards. As soon as I get a Jeter in it's gone in a trade before I know it!

Good luck!
