I'd never heard of this guy before but after looking him up he had a fairly long MLB career from '41 to '56. He also was a 2 time NL All Star and led the National League in strikeouts one year. Pretty nice career and here I was incorrectly thinking he wasn't
worth a Schmitz!!

He was also a Navy WWII vet, struck out 4 batters in an inning in 1937 (a feat that happened only 99 times in Baseball History), and had the nickname "Bear Tracks"!

Always weird to see the alma mater mentioned and not have it include Kent Tekulve or Terry Mulholland. The on campus field house is named in his honor. He also has a plaque/portrait at the Baseball HOF.
