Currently PSA for avergae grading on raw cards 1980 and newer is $27.99 ea. I was use to spending $14.99 -$17.99 as a PSA card member. I am not too familiar with the others such as SGC, BGS, BCCG, Anyone have any preferences to send to. I have about 20 cards I would love to send off . If anyone knows of any pricing that would be helpful too.
I know PSA is the most credible and again I am not too familiar with the others. Any info would be appreciated. Thx Jim

SGC is about $15 and they are better credible in the community for vintage cards.
BGS is $15 and they are in the top three for sure and what is unique about them is that you can add subgrades which are grades that they individually add for surface, corners, centering etc.
If you are looking to flip though PSA will get you the most money profit wise compared to other grading companies but they are really expensive right now.
Another note is that the turnaround time for PSA standard is closer to 90 days (I had to wait 110 for mine) whereas BGS and SGC are around 45 days tops.

Another thing is that they have an option like PSA will also grades your auto for a $5 extra.

Overall PSA holds the best value but if you are looking for a different company then BGS is definitely the best for retain card value and SGC is best for vintage.
All three are very credible in the community these are the top three with PSA.

Here is a picture of BGS subgrades:

and if you do not already know here are the slab photos of what they look like for BGS and SGC

BCCG stands for Beckett Collector’s Club Grading, a low-cost, high-volume grading service launched by Beckett Media as an affordable alternative to its premium grading brands, but they have since discontinued that service.

Yeah especially because you have to pay like $20-30 for shipping there and back as well.

How does it compare to PSA results, ? similar?
As far as the grading itself, I think the big three are all pretty equal when it comes to the grade you get. If you are strictly looking for resale value PSA has the edge over the others. Why that is, I do not know.

I've had several reputable vintage dealers tell me that they subtract 2 grades for anything not PSA or SGC when it comes to vintage. I can see why when I compared a 1970-71 Topps Wilt Chamberain BGS 6.5 to a PSA 6.5 one. The BGS one looked like complete crap when put next to the PSA one. I mean, the difference was stunning. Unfortunately, the BGS one was mine. I should have pulled the old switcheroo. LOL That cured me from acquiring anything but PSA or SGC. when it comes to vintage.

I'm a big fan of a sleeve and a top loader over a big clunky "slab" and I like looking at my cards and knowing what type of condition theyre in, and not paying someone to find out if they agree with me.

....I will admit though, since people are willing to overpay for these opinions of "experts"(employees who did a training course on looking at cardboard), I do send in cards sometimes. SGC if I want a quick turn around and am willing to lose a few bucks on the final sale, and PSA when I feel like waiting out a full seasonal transition and forgetting I'd even sent cards til that giant scoop comes out of my bank account without warning 100ish days after sending. I feel its worth it for the few extra bucks you get for going with the guys who missed an alteration on the first card they ever graded.

SGC- painless and more of a community of sgc collectors online in vintage. I mostly collect vintage and if I didnt loathe grading I'd perhaps be an sgc "tux" loyalist.

PSA- Takes longer, costs more, because "F*#K YOU!! ....you'll put up with it!!" (and theyre right)

Beckett- they haven't been able to publish a price guide that reflected real life marketplace values since the early 90s and are now in the business of grading VHS tapes. Thumbs down from me.

Right on,shig
I decided to send in to SGC after some input- 24 cards including several 1987 various Bo, McGwire,Maddox, Bonds RC's. Big return if 10's come in. we will see,thx for the info, Jim

I'm sure you probably know, but just in case a few don't. PSA bought Beckett so I would be leery of sending cards to Beckett for now in case they decide to drop the BGS label. You may think possibly that will make them rare (and yes, I guess that is a small possibility), but I graded my cards with CGC ~5 years ago because I thought - hey if they are the PSA of comic books, then why can't they become a leader in card grading. Well they got bought (or merged or some ****) and now I have 15 cards in CGC slabs that I THINK hurts their value. Problem is a lot are 10s and CGC was known to be a very hard grader back then so I don't know if I should sell as is or break them out.

In any case, long story short...I'd stay away from BGS in the meantime and people are right here: SGC for vintage and PSA def for resell of modern.
