Here is a factoid I did not know until today. Morton and Staubach were both born on February 5th with Staubach being boirn in 1942 and Morton in 1943.
Looking at the Cowboys Playoff results from the Meridith/Morton/early Staubach era, that franchise really paid its' dues. 1966 and 1967 they lose to the Packers in two nail biters. In 1968 and 1969 they lose in the first round to the Browns. I do not remember those 2 games with the Cleveland as the Colts and Vikings were the eventual dominant NFL Champions those two seasons. In 1970 they finally get to the Super Bowl only to lose a heartbreaker to the Colts before finally breaking through in 1971 to win their first Super Bowl, That run of playoff failures really was the big factor in making Dallas "America's Team" as they were the loveable underdogs for that 6 year stretch. That "Close but no Cigar' run particularly in 1966, 1967 and 1970, really increased their peopularity nationwide.
