    Beckett Marketplace is a joke

it makes plenty of sense if as you have said, that is ALL you see. It's an insane price, and nobody HAS to buy it, but if there are one or two people who WILL at some point, that's all it takes. They have a LOT of stuff people have been looking a long time for, and if dedicated collectors...

    Should I just do it?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1986-TOPPS-660-STEVE-GARVEY-LOT-OF-48-NMMT-B19732-/350839529577?pt=US_Baseball&hash=item51afaa6069#ht_1988wt_1016 I'd just buy that and see what it gets you. Buying a card like that online isn't cost effective as a single, and as you pointed out, with only 47...

Anyone ever just want to walk away from collecting?

All the time. I've been collecting since 1981 myself. I have a one bedroom apartment with a walk in closet full of boxes and binders, I have them under my bed, on my computer desk, stacks on the floor, boxes in my bedroom closet, boxes under my living room table, stack ON my living room table, a...

    Question About Player Collecting

I might or might not, mostly depending if I liked the design/picture. I'm fortunate in that the players I collect most (Dan Gladden and Brad Radke) were from a time before that became a bigger issue. I'm also fortunate in my mind because I can simply focus on what I like and don't have that...

How important is it to get Vintage cards graded?

Personally, I'm not big on third party grading unless it's specifically for selling. I'd leave a note with my will saying what they were and where to get them graded if they want to sell them. Top loaders, penny sleeves, and semi rigid holders have worked fine for me.

How important is it to get Vintage cards graded?

How important it is depends entirely on what you want to do with them and what condition they are in. Are you planning to sell them? Are they very high grade? If yes to both, grading is a very good idea to maximize your sale price. If you are not planning to sell, then it's up to you if you want...

    Need 1983 Donruss

Yeah, that is a tougher one. The item itself isn't scarce, but asking for someone to break up a factory set to complete another one is kind of a downhil event. Then THEY have a partial set that unless they get another wrapped deck, isn't a full factory set, and the only way for THEM to get one...

    Yasiel Puig

Give it five or ten years. Between him signing for a lot more product, time to see how his career develops, and people moving on to the next big thing, odds are in your favor of getting an autograph at a much better price

    Save or buy now?

Save for something you collect. As much fun as it sounds to rip a more expensive box, too many new products are just made to get people to open for the hits. Ask yourself this, are you more likely to be disappointed with the 'hits' in a higher end box, or with two or three boxes of something...

BSL Rule Change: Sign & Trade

I think that's what he's trying to avoid. If you are signing a player to an extension that could significantly hurt a team in half a season, then they probably shouldn't be getting that extension in the first place. I look through the transactions and signings trying to get ideas for things I...

    High End Box Advice

I've always been a fan of stuff like 1999 UD signature series, 2001 Topps Archive or Archives reserve, All Time Fan Favorites, Upper Deck Legends, etc. Maybe not as high end as you were thinking, but I like the designs, the auto checklist is solid, and the big autographs themselves can be a lot...

    Spring Cleaning finds

I'll check when I get home, I busted a box of Bowman's Best a few months back, it was somewhere in that 1997-1999 range, I'll see for sure after work. It had one common atomic refractor for sure
