OK, another Noob question. So I've done my research and now I think i'm up to speed on what is what as far as type of cards is concerned and now I'm ready for 2012.

I have a couple hundred bucks to spend on boxes this spring so would you recommend going the HTA jumbo box or the Standard Hobby Box? I guess I don't know all the benefits of HTA over Hobby.

I found HTA boxes for about $95 and Hobby for $60. Is that about the right price for each?

Thanks in advance.

I think historically the jumbos have more cards total in them. I've always thought the insertion rates were similar for both, although certain inserts might be confined to one type of box. I have always leaned towards the jumbo boxes but they do seem to sell quicker.

In the last few years, a HTA (aka Jumbo) box will also have a complete base set. With the sheer number of inserts Topps has, there is no way to get a complete base set from a hobby box.

Jumbos: 50 cards per pack X 10 packs = 500 cards
Hobby: 10 cards per pack X 36 packs = 360 cards

You will probably get less cards than that in each box, because packs with a relic card contain less cards than a "normal" pack.

I did not get even close to a complete set from my jumbo(s) last year, so don't count on that. Topps collation is not good, IMO.

yea always go HTA if you can get them i purchase a case of 2011 heritage and even then didnt get a complete set, think i missed by one or two cards. and had a bunch of junk GU bats from them too, if you want auto's go HTA.

good luck dave

I personally think you are better off with the HTA Jumbos, but the hobby boxes do last a little longer. More good stuff in the Jumbos.
