just a heads up....

first week of december a guy saw my listings for 5-card lots of topps rookie of the weeks , flashback fridays , trading card history , and turn back the clocks ....instead of buying or bidding on the lots as they were , he wrote asking if i would sell him 8 complete sets and ship them in a small flat rate box for $6.....

i wrote back to tell him i did not HAVE any complete sets....i also provided him with a complete list of my available quantities for all the cards in the sets and asked which he could use....offered to set up a listing for a lot so he could make a single purchase through ebay....he replied that he didn't need all of them and proceeded to hit the BIN on 10 lots for a total of 50 cards......

fast forward to tonight and i see he has now left feedback for me on 7 of the 10 lots....the feedback he left read like this :

Rec' back from grading company .... Ouch !

Rec' back from grading company .... Ouch ! 8.5

Rec' back from grading company .... Ouch ! 8

Rec' back from grading company .... Whoa 7

his DSR's were also enough to give me a noticeable ding on "item as described" where i'd never fallen below 5.0

i admit , i'm a bit PO'ed of the DSR even more than the feedback....each and every lot he bought had the text in it's description :

'The card pictured is one of the actual cards in this lot and its condition can be considered typical of the remaining unpictured cards ."

Most also had the following line :

"While I would not guarantee any specific grade on the cards in this lot should they be submitted for grading , I would estimate that the average condition of the cards to be Near Mint or better ."

personally , i'm not a fan of grading at all....i'd only even CONSIDER it for vintage items bought purely for resale...definitely not for a batch of 50 cards with BV's in the $1-2 range.....but the decision to grade is a personal choice and i understand that....

BUT....what i really am ticked about is that (assuming he did get them all graded and that they came back with the grades he posted in his feedback) i specifically stated that i considered "the average condition of the cards to be Near Mint or better"....unless i'm wrong , don't most grading companies use a 7 for NM ? 7.5 for NrMt+ (or similar term) ? 8 for NrMt-Mt and so on ? if that is correct , then wouldn't the cards he claimed received 7 , 7'5 , 8 , or 8.5 be accurately described ?

any opinions on this ? i know what i am going to , but curious what others would do in a similar situation .....

i notice he also left similar feedback for another seller today (though THAT seller specifically said in his listings "CARD IS MINT")....

i'd rather not name him publicly , but for anyone curious who wants to join me in blocking him , pm me or email me and provide his id....

Wow, sounds like a real loser. And seriously, people buy cards like that to grade them? Never figured out the whole graded card thing but especially for common newer cards. I find cards like that in dime and quarter boxes, I wouldn't invest $10 to take a shot at selling them for more. When I see them at shows priced at $20-30 or even more I just laugh. People that buy that stuff are collecting grades, not cards.

Not that it's going to make a difference in your rating, but I would note in the reply that a 7 is NRMT, and therefore as described.

i havent left feedback for him - yet....i did RESPOND to all 7 he left for me by noting that the grade he claims to have received is indeed equal to or greater than that stated in my listings....

as expected , when i awoke today and saw yesterday's DSR numbers logged , i'd taken a noticeable ding in all 3 categories in he which he could leave it (barring a postal delay i always get the automatic 5 on speed of shipping)....the is one clown on his own dropped my 12-MONTH averages from 4.99 to 4.86 , 4.96 to 4.90 , and 4.95 to 4.85 .

the part that REALLY has me nervous is that he still has 3 items for which he posted no feedback....i'm just a wee bit paranoid now that he may try to use those to post even more damaging feedback spaced out over the new 2-3 weeks so that each one would count as a separate rating.....

fwiw , i am often told i'm WAAAAAY to picky on card condition (as may be evidenced by the fact that i end up discarding between 30 and 40% of all items i ever get on ebay or even HERE due to them not meeting my condition requirements) and even i considered these to be i good solid collectible condition....methinks i may have just encountered a guy on a bad day with an axe to grind since he left similar feedback for two of us on the same day after no evidence of that practice in his previous 7 YEARS of posting feedback for sellers....

Funny it says your at 100% when i look at your profile. and the Namath card even though he may be a little testy, got what he paid for so maybe everyones a little bent out of shape.

for me when i look at cards to buy off ebay, i read the description and toss out the sellers opponion of the grade or supposed value. they are ALWAYS over inflated. thats just how people sell.

but i still dont see what your issue is, he is entitled to his opponion. just learn from it and keep selling.

oh he left "positive" feedback....but really that means little......in the eyes of ebay , it's the DSR ratings that are used to determine seller status and any sanctions against a seller....

though my items were described accurately , he crushed my "item as described" rating (which is the most critical in ebay's eyes , so much in fact that it takes only HALF as many low ratings in that category as any other to be penalized)....

though my communication was virtually immediate (i was online and we exchanged multiple emails when he asked me questions prior to buying) , was very polite , and answered each and every question he asked yet he also slammed me there...

he even had the nerve to drop a heavy rating on cost of shipping....that one really irked me since he specifically asked me if i would be willing to ship all his cards via flat rate priority mail for $6...i always OFFER that option if the items will fit in the small rate box , but he actually ASKED ME for that rate BEFORE HAND and STILL tagged me with a low DSR.....

Bummer deal man - I'd like to block this "person" from my auctions if you can post the user name or PM it to me. Thanks!

Sounds like a miserable guy. He basically thought that if he bought your lots at a fair price, it should be expected that they came back a 9 or a 10 where he would instantly and automatically gain value on the cards. You weren't marketing them, or selling them anywhere near a 9 or 10 grade value, so for him to expect that is stupid and selfish on his part. Don't do business with him any more. He's a feedback natzi. He could have emailed you about how he felt rather than advertise it.

AAARRGGGGGGGGGGGG...

fast forward 2 1/2 weeks and he did it again....

the clown finally posted feedback on the last 3 lots he bought from me .....once again he left POSITIVE feedback and no 1's or 2's on the DSR's for all three items , but as i feared , even though these were part of the same large order , his DSR's (obviously all 3's) dropped me another huge chunk today....

prior to his earlier feedback/DSR's my 12-month numbers were ALL 4.96 or higher and my 3-month numbers were all dead on 5.0.....thanks to his two bombs alone my 12-month numbers now range from 4.85-4.89 (he cant touch my 5.0 on time since the packages arrived within the time frame that gives me an automatic 5) and my 3-month numbers are down to 4.74-4.80

on the positive side , he was blocked when he first tagged me and now he has no more items that have yet to have feedback posted so hopefully i'm done with him and can now spend the next 11 months restoring my numbers to where they belong...
