Anyone seen this UD garbage?

The fact that they are w/o logos, team names and photos makes them look amateurish to me. Yes, they are licensed and made by a once glorious card maker...and they are less boring that a blank 3x5, so I will give that. The names in the checklist are excellent. Why not, with all the left over stickers they seem to have. It's a way to make some money. Heck, I would probably try if I were them.

For me, there is more to the hobby than just an autograph or a card of a player though. Generally it needs to appeal to me as well. Sometimes something jumps out at me that otherwise would be a pass for a different player. Sadly, my taste goes out the window when I am player collecting.

I'll try to buy any with Garvey, but I do so only because I am one of those warped player collectors who must try to get everything. Call me a sucker while you're at it, because that kind of collector will buy anything, EVEN GARBAGE!!

Like I said before, they suck, but they will sell and it appears some people actually even like them. To each their own. Did I mention that I think they SUCK? I just wanted to be clear on that point!;)

I'd love to see them not sell at all and I completely agree that they suck, that was the point of my post to begin with, but sadly they will sell. There is no shortage of people with money to burn it seems. As for taste, luckily we all have our own variations of it. I hate them, you hate them, but there are people that won't care and will still buy them.

There is another Dodger quad that is up to $20+ so far with numerous bids.

As I noted, Signa Cuts was my previous most hated product, with Panini coming in a close 2nd. Those could have been decent, but they cut up TTM/IP baseball cards for their signature cuts and did a lousy job of it to boot! As for the UD cards, we have a new winner for worst card set EVER!

At least Panini used cities and non-uniformed photos for their junk products. Those were bad too, but nothing like this UD stuff.

I'd take these over Panini and Signa cuts in a heartbeat, they might even beat out UD etchings, man those are some fugly cards. To me, it isn't much different than an index card, on the whole I'd rather have other things, but if the price is right, I'll take the index card/ugly yellow HOF plaque. The auctions you posted are way too high, no doubt, but that is everywhere these days. I was in a shop today that wanted $4 for a Topps Tino Martinez jersey card because it was the copper version /99, and $6 for an Absolute quad GU card /100 of Rickey Henderson, Troy Glaus, Darrin Erstad, and Casey Kotchman. The fact that it had a Henderson on it was the only reason I bothered to glace at the price. Donruss was the king, look at that 04 Diamond Kings set (or was it 05?) Use the same photo, the same text, throw a few colored borders on, change the photo from color to sepia to B&W, add a GU or two GU, then an auto, then various mishmashes of borders, photo tweaks, GU and Auto and you have about 85 variations all numbered to 150 or less and people today are still talking about 'you always got good value in Donruss/Leaf boxes'. It's every bit the contrived scarcity these are

Personally like autographs but hate that their is no picture or they aren't in MLB unis. I'd really love to see Upper Deck get their crap together & get their license back.

Well, the quad Dodger card at auction ended up selling for just under $70 and then this one was suddenly not available, so perhaps the seller found a side deal off ebay.

I was not a contender as it went above what I was willing to pay.

I was searching for a checklist and was reading some of the articles and threads about this product. UD is getting flamed on this issue for sure, but as I noted before, it is selling. There are some really neat combos, mostly 25 copies or less. I found 6 different Garvey combo cards that are anywhere from triple signatures to 6 auto cards. Looks like he also has a base auto card in the 1:3.5 pack group:

6 AU #'D/3 (81 WS Dodgers)
6 AU #'D/5 (77 WS Yankees & Dodgers)
6 AU #'D/10 (70s Stars)
5 AU #'D/10 (First Basemen)
4 AU #'D/10 (70s Stars)
4 AU #'D/15 (81 WS Dodgers)
3 AU #'D/25 (81 WS Dodgers)

Probably the toughest to get will be the 5 auto card of 1B with Garvey, A. Gonzalez, McCovey, Pujols and F. Thomas, #'d/10. Thanks UD!

Another toughie might be the 77 WS card with 6 players, 3 Yankees, 3 Dodgers. Reggie Jackson is the best of the Yanks and this one is #'d/5.

Proof that we collectors will buy just about anything a card maker pushes in our general direction. The only positive for this issue is that you are getting autographs. Autographs hold their values much better than regular cards.

I had no opinion on this product, until I happened to find a Puckett auto #'d to 25 on ebay. I believe this is the first Puckett card out since '07, which immediately got my interest.

The BIN was set at $349.99, fairly reasonable for Pucketts currently in BIN format, but well above what auction prices are. Most Pucketts are going somewhere between $115 and $175, so $349.99 is a bit higher than it should be, but willing to bet it will sell.

If it was available at a reasonable price, I would probably chase it, but being that it is overpriced (IMHO) and VERY generic, I will wait and see how the pricing changes over time before putting money on the table.
