(THIS IS ALL PENDING, BUT SHOULD BE A FINAL COPY)

The draft will take place the day AFTER players file for free agency. I will post a SPECIFIC list of players available, as well as their salary for the following year.

I will also post a SPECIFIC list of what amount each team EXACTLY have to spend on the draft

(you will not be able to spend more than 10 million over your available owner budget regardless of cash on hand, so if your owner offers you 120 million budget and you're at 125 before the draft, you will have 5 million 'capped' spending and will be unable to select players making more than that)

As a contraction draft 'bonus' all teams will receive 5 million in cash, whether picking first or last, to help pay for players or to build up savings if minor league players are selected.

Before the draft takes place, any player on these teams with a team or mutual option will be declined and will be a free agent, hence not available for the contraction draft. The players available for arbitration will be assigned new contracts by the computer and will be draftable. All minor league players will be draftable.

  • If you are a cash negative team, I would HIGHLY advise taking a minor league player, hoping I don't have to explain why.
  • Teams CAN elect not to select a player
  • The draft will continue until either all players have been drafted from eligible list or all teams have passed on further picks.
  • Any remaining players will be released to the free agent pool.

Any MLB players drafted MUST go on your 40 man roster. Therefore, after the draft, you will have to make room before they will be reassigned to your roster. Any minor league players will be transferred to the minor leagues.

Wow, Kendall hit the jackpot! I'm pretty happy landing #13 - much better than I thought I'd get. Time to start doing some homework!

Eric

Nice Kendall, you can thank my sister in law we let her pull the first name out of the hat so I wouldn't have anyone mad at me. I pulled the rest of the names out of the hat. I must say Cory making all 847 tickets or whatever the number was and cutting them out must of been a heck of a time. I felt horrible pulling the names because I know some people are gonna probley not like there picks lol nothing I could do about it just picking paper. Now I know why I don't go to casinos very often luck of the draw is not my specialty lol. Was pleased to get a mid round pick hopefully get a need filled somewhere. Got a feeling Pittsburg is gonna be a force in he NL Central very soon should be able to get someone nice with his early pick. Kendall nailed it though #1 system in the game and now #1 pick and im guessing there is 1 possibly 2 guys he could go after but more then likely the back to back NL cy young would be my assumption. Happy people North of the border.

#2 pick is fine with me. Can't afford who should be everyone's first choice.

Gene, that's ok because I believe there is another SP of sorts who is cheap and pretty good himself not saying any names :) You can thank me for pulling that #2 ticket for you lol

Heath, it's OK because I'll probably trade him to you sooner or later anyhow!! I already know who my "target" (looking at 3 guys) guy is but, it all depends on who Kendall picks. Anyway, I going to get something I need for the Phillies!! :):)

Good grief, this is what I was talking about! Kendall, happy for you and this is not about you but the changes.

Toronto already has the #1 Minor League system by a fair amount and is a team that was ranked around 22nd in terms of lottery tickets---so of course Toronto gets the first pick! This just messes up things. This is why the worst team drafts first for the regular draft, so a bad team can get better. Now a talent rich team gets (assuming he picks Martinez) the best pitcher the BSL has ever seen.

Padres in the fifth slot as well, this was a team that only had 5 tickets total in the hat!

Just do not get this at all.

No offense taken Matt.. I just wish Cory's wife lived closer to give her a kiss on the cheek.... LOL!!! I will probably take the better SP and his salary so the Phillies can take the younger, cheaper, and better looking SP. Hahaha...

I understand the reason behind the lotery but I wonder if maybe a 3-5 year average for winning percentage would be better. That way, as matt says, the worst teams over the span will have a chance to get stronger and it won't be based it on a single year. Just my 2 cents worth. And this is coming from a team with a top 10 pick.

Everything is relative. Toronto was tied for 14th in the league in Win % this season. The 'worst' team in the league this year (Min) has the 6th best minor league system. The M's spent 252% more than the Pirates and won 7 more games.

I tried making the most balanced system I could come up with that would provide a fair shot for all. I didn't want Toronto picking first either, but that's the way it fell.

If anything is to blame for the disparity in the league, trading of prospects is it. If it were up to me and me alone, I would ban all trading of prospects until they have completed at least 2 years with their drafting organization. Do you know what the league would look like then? If we police trading, we get told we are overbearing. If we don't police trading, things are too unbalanced. There is no good way to win.

Also, San Diego has 25 tickets in the hat.

It was based on a 2 year avg for winning percentage, not a single year, and also a 2 year average in payroll spent. This was not only for the low win% teams, but for the low payroll teams as well.

The draft was based on the last 2 seasons.. I had a top 10 pick 2 years ago and made the playoffs last season.. Then this season I was a .500 team.. So anything can happen in this game.. I could draft SP Martinez and he gets a career ending injury next season.. It is all in good fun...

This is why its called a lottery... the person who plays a dollar a week thier entire life never sees a dime, but the knucklehead who finds a dollar plays and wins a million dollars. Not saying you're a knucklehead Kendall ;)
