So at a card show recently, I was going through a dime box and was thinking, I wonder who peoples buy when they go through these boxes. So my question to you is, when going through dime boxes, who do you always buy, regardless of the card? Mainly looking for your thoughts on baseball and football. My list is as follows:

Baseball:
Albert Pujols
Derek Jeter
Mickey Mantle (no HRH1)
Newer Pirates :)

Football:
Aaron Rodgers
Troy Polamalu

Oddly enough, although it's more in the $0.25 and $1.00 boxes than dime boxes, I tend to get cheaper the longer I look. It's easy to pull out $50-60 worth from those boxes before you even realize it.

I don't necessarily buy any one player per se (even with base cards at a dime add up and guys like Jeter and Ripken aren't always "worth" the dime for overproduced basic stuff), but I would be likely to buy just about any insert and star parallels for a dime.

I pick up up my Red Sox of course, then Griffey, Ripken, Jeter, Pujols, Mantles, Ruth, Aaron, Mays etc...Those are players that even if I never trade them, I am more than willing to just keep as part of my collection.

Firstly, let me just say I LOVE dime boxes. (Just check out the title of my blog in my sig.)

Secondly, the player I always seem to buy is Vladimir Guerrero. I've accumulated a couple hundred cards of him from dime boxes over the years.

I look for cards that card to find...was going thru a high dollar 3,000 count box and found the prom of the 1998 big bang seasonal outburst!! Best regards, David

wow that is definitely a find! Those are tough early inserts!

I go for every tough parallel (not one per pack) I can find in dime boxes, nearly every serial numbered card, and set needs or short prints for sets. I get refractors out of quarter boxes and a little more picky on the numbered cards and certain parallels. I always buy autos out of fifty cent boxes and often out of dollar boxes. I'll grab $6 to $10 shortprints like Turkey Red and Topps Heritage whenever they appear in dollar boxes, and I'll buy off grade decent vintage in these boxes too, 68-73 for a dime, 60-67 for a quarter, 58-59 for fifty cents, and 53-57 for a dollar.

Cardinals inserts/parallels first. When searching for those if I come across star player inserts (Jeter, Ripken, etc) I'll scoop them up and also when looking if I know somebody I traded with before needs a particular card I keep an eye out for those needs as well.

Jeter
Pujols
Virtually any insert
Any serial number
Any Refractor

The other stars mainly if they are inserts and/or something a little offbeat- I just got a bunch of Kraft 1993 Standups- not in demand but someone will trade for them and most book for $4-6 apiece. I'll also take a shot on any Yankees card I'm reasonably sure I don't have.

Pujols
Jeter
Cubs
Brewers
Refractors
Serial #ds
SPs
and anything else I find amusing or may interest another collector on here (tradebait)
