Hey friends,

Here is a Jamie Moyer signed magazine page, from his stint with the Rockies at the end of his career. It is mounted on a piece of cardboard and would look great framed!



Using numbers 1-100, one guess per member FOR THE LIFE OF THE CONTEST, as I want the date (or at least year) of your first baseball game to accompany your guess!

My first game was with my beloved Grandparents, who took me to Wrigley Field to see the Cubs vs. Astros, August 23rd, 1988. Jamie Moyer (my all-time favorite pitcher!) pitched a complete game, and I had a blast, remember it like it was yesterday. In fact, I have my Grandfather's Cubs hat that he wore to the game still to this day. Great memories, they were fantastic people!

I had to look this up to be sure but I correctly remembered that Jamie Moyer was married to the daughter of former Notre Dame basketball coach. It was Digger Phelps's Notre Dame team that snapped UCLA's 88 game win streak.

I'll guess 88 since that was the streak that Jamie Moyer's father in law stopped.

My first game was in 1987. Indians vs. Orioles at old Municipal Stadium in Cleveland. Mel Hall homered that day and I am pretty sure that Mike Flanagan was pitching for Baltimore.

First game ever attended - if my parents haven't been lying to me - was the 1974 All Star Game in Pittsburgh at Three Rivers Stadium. Which would give me a total of 3 ASG's (Boston/Cleveland) attended. I quoted Bryons post because in the summer of 1987 I was embarking on a 4 year stint of life in Ohio! And I loved Municipal Stadium in Cleveland - and as much as I love baseball, my favorite visit was seeing the Rolling Stones - Steel Wheels tour, opened by Living Colour.

Forgot to mention regarding Jamie Moyer - he went to high school at Souderton Area HS outside of Philly - which was part of the now defunct Bux-Mont League. I may be mis-remembering, but pretty sure i saw him play both hoops and baseball at live games and as part of summer camps.

My first game ever was at Tiger Stadium in 1968. I was so disappointed that I missed eventual 31 game winner Denny McClain by one day and saw Mickey Lolich instead. Turns out the hero of the World Series a few months later was Mickey Lolich!

But any disappointment on not seeing McLain was overcome by seeing my favorite player, Willie Horton, hit a home run!

I'll go with 68 in reference to my first MLB game.

One other interesting trivia on Digger Phelps is that he is tied for the most wins over #1 teams with Gary Williams. The iconic UCLA win was the first of 7 victories over #1 ranked teams for him.

I gotta look up to see if any of his Notre Dame teams made it to the Final Four. I know he had some really good teams in the 1970s and early 80s but I am not remembering if any of them made the Final Four or not. I was really following college basketball back then and I am just not recalling ND being in the Final Four.

I can't believe I forgot that ND made the Final Four in 1978. That was a team with Bill Laimbeer, Bill Hanzlik and Kelly Tripuka. I am even more surprised because I distinctly remember watching the UK/Arkansas semi final where Arkansas had "The Triplets" which were their three best players all being 6'4" (Moncrief, Brewer and Delph). That is the first actual small-ball team that I remember and I was really mad about them losing to UK. It was pretty much a David and Goliath matchup with the Triplets vs the two giants on Kentucky (Roby and Phillips).

Some pretty cool teams made the Final Four back in that era.......Arkansas (a SWC school)UNC-Charlotte, Jacksonville, Florida State (not in the ACC back then) and UNLV. At least three of those schools the majority of basketball fans had never even heard of back then

I am seeing multiple guesses from folks - thought this was a guess once contest??

Municipal Stadium did have some horrible baseball played in it over the years. But than again, most stadiums have. I was lucky, for most of the time I spent at Municipal, and than Jacobs Field, it was Belle, Lofton, Alomar, Baerga, et. al. So lots of good times. And of course, The Flats....if you couldn't have fun there, you couldn't have fun anywhere!
