was sentenced 5-15 yrs for armed robbery......

began to have sex with local prostitutes and soon after he was introduced to shooting ****** in a neighbourhood 'shooting gallery'

led the American League with 68 steals in 1978

He, along with Mark "The Bird" Fidrych, were the primary reasons that the Tigers' attendance rose in 1976 by close to 5,000 per game over the previous year

1980, he came closest to encountering play-off action as he stole a career-high 97 bases to help the Expos finish the season in second place, only a game behind the eventual World Series champion Philadelphia Phillies

After playing two seasons for the Chicago White Sox, he retired in 1982.

On May 5, 2007, during an autograph signing, was again arrested for failure to pay child support

That's right, Chief, they did make a movie about him. As I recall, LeVar Burton played him in the movie. Nothing against Burton but he just couldn't run like Ron. Awesome success, by the way!!!!!

Discovered by Billy Martin while playing baseball in prison. Pretty wild story. I'd like to see the movie, but it may be a tough one to find.

Here's a short clip....

I remember when this film came on tv and I cracked up whenever they made those throws from the outfield. Note the long looping throws. Both Stanley and LeFlore had much better arms than that. LeFlore, by the way, was an electrifying athlete who's career ending way too soon.

My dad just barely missed out on getting to play softball against LeFlore in the 1970's. LeFlore was in prison in Jackson, MI and playing on the prison softball team, and they had a game scheduled against my dad's team. But the game got rained out and once it was rescheduled, LeFlore was out and on his way to the Tigers.
