What card or cards would you NEVER sell? My first instinct is to say I would sell any of them, who cares, they are just things, but then I think more and say "the custom card I made with the ticket stub from my first ever baseball game that my Grandparents took me to in 1988 that Jamie Moyer pitched a complete win and then signed for me 25 years later" makes me stop and think. So, with that long sentence ringing in my ears, that is the one I would never sell!

How about you?????

Its completely worthless compared to most of collection but I wouldn't sell my 1982 Reds program...reminds me of my grandfather taking me to the ballpark!

Brian, I remember the story behind that program, and your scans you posted not long ago, cool item and even cooler story, and THAT is what this is all about! Thanks for sharing!

I would say my 1978 Nolan Ryan my Gram gave to me back in 1989 for a birthday present and my 1972 Steve Superior that my mom and dad gave me back in 1993. All 3 are deceased now but each card holds a special place in my heart

I have a 1979 Bill Lee card signed. He had lost some of the ones I sent him originally & when I wrote & inquired about them he sent back some other cards, still not the ones that were mine, with this '79 card signed "F You" and then "Angry Card" and then his signature. I love it!...

Very cool friends, love the personal stories!

PS: My Grandmother was "Gram" too!

God bless,

Kevin Mc

Same here (on both points)! Mine would be my 1975 Topps Hank Aaron HL #1. It was one of the first cards my father bought for me when my collection was first starting and I was instantly in love with it. A few years ago, I wrote a special post about it on my blog. Here's the link if anyone is interested:

Thanks,

I have a Bill Lee signed ball with the inscription "Yankees Suck" on it. Not a Sox fan but the Spaceman is quite the character and my favorite piece of memorabilia in my collection.

As far as cards go,I'll never sell my Nolan Ryan and Tom Seaver RCs.

Well,I would say, two cards when me and my wife first got engaged, She brought me a pack of 2012 Topps and it had a Yu darvish Rookie, so too me it's just special aswell afew days later, she brought me a pack of bowman. N hit a, Christian Bethancourt Auto,

Cool stuff guys, John, enjoyed reading the blog, and nice to hear about your engagement story Chris!

bblair, I am not sure if you make it to Boston very frequently, but the fans often chant "Yankees Suck" when the Sox beat anyone, or the Celtics, or the Bruins.....I guess there is just a lot of Yankee hostility there, funny story, and I remembered that from my travels when you posted about Spaceman, thanks for that!

God Bless,

I have one of the original Tim Hudson cards given away at Auburn. Not the ones that were mass produced but
one of the ones given away at the game.

Only been to Fenway once in my teens but that's pretty awesome. I don't like the Yankees either but when I saw that ball when the local BC Sports closed down,I had to have it. That's the only drawback to me going to Cooperstown. That place is so pro-Yankees it makes me wanna puke lol.

scc76, very cool, one of my own favorite items is an Illinois Founders Day SGA card that I later sent to Dick Butkus and he signed for us, very cool, and unique!

I have not been to Cooperstown myself, and would go if I had the opportunity, maybe with our family someday, but I have heard that it is pretty pro-Yankees, though of course from the days of Ruth-Gehrig-DiMaggio on down through the years ,they have had some great players and great teams....would love to see some more Cardinals in there personally!!

The museum has more than enough to satisfy any team fan and given their history, the Yankees have their fair share of items on display. I'm talking about the surrounding shops more than the HOF itself being pro-Yankees.

I live about an hour away and go there every year. Indeed, very heavy of Yankees fans.

Anyway the cards I would never sell: 1980 Topps Johnny Bench (My first card in my first pack), 1952 Bowman Roy Campanella (SP?) 1966 Topps Mickey Mantle and 1968 Topps Pete Rose - with the exception of the Bench, all were gifts from my aunt and uncle.

I'll sell just about anything except for a 1972 Topps Ron Santo I got signed at a Cubs convention and a Manute Bol autograph I got TTM a long time ago:)

Very cool, I remember Bol as a great philanthropist who died very young.....Jaybo, your aunt and uncle had great taste in cards!

God Bless,

Kevin Mc

PS: Keep the memories rolling in, these are a lot of fun!

Thinking about what card I just would NOT sell... well honestly I'd sell my whole collection for the right price. It would HAVE to be the whole collection, otherwise it would pointless. I got the card below from a trader on beckett.com back in 2007. Back then your "references" were just you copying and pasting usernames in your sig. I forget his screen name but a gentleman sent me the card below FREE of charge. He asked nothing of return. Back then my Sheffield collection was big enough to be called a collection but not anything compared to what it is now. So I'd have to pick the penta gu. He could have got around $50 at the time for it but decided to gift it. A better man than I. Only downside to the card is that there are a bunch of variations of every variation of the set lol. Still a nice card none the less.
