I know the 90's brought alot of folks into collecting. I thought it would be cool to bring back some of those old memories by posting some of the great cards from the 90's! I'll start it off with this one...

I couldn't rip through 1990 Score Packs fast enough! This card now books at a whopping .50! Can you believe that?

Thanks

I only have a few scans of this type of thing...

The at one time, super hot 1993 Finest Frank Thomas refractor. This was a 4 figure card at one time.

Then there was the Arod craze. The September call-up redemption card became a toughie when the 94 strike drove many collectors away temporarily. The redemption card had an expiration date, so many of them hibernated in packs until after the redemption period expired.

UD had redemption cards for mystery draft picks the same year, picks 1 & 2. I am pretty sure the redemption cards were issued before the picks were made,, because I have seen the unredeemed cards and they don't indicate who the player will be. If you had pick #1, you beat the odds in a position that rarely * produced a superstar player. If you had pick #2, you had a novelty. The 2 card set yielded Arod and another player who never did much in baseball, but had a famous relative, Kirk Presley.

Lastly, the special inserts from the 1994 Score Select R/T set. There was a NL & AL ROY commemorative as well as a Nolan Ryan tribute card. These were very nice looking dufex cards and were once very valuable and hard to find.

These types of cards used to really excite my collecting passion. I loved mail-ins, redemptions, exchange cards, NNOs, and those oddly numbered cards (MJ1, SP2, etc) that were a set in themselves, etc. The fun of those types of cards is gone for me now, but the 90s created some really fantastic cards.

I have actually started my little "scrapbook" of memories dedicated strictly to these type of cards. My scanner is down, but I can tell you that the album is full of 1992 Donruss Diamond Kings, Fleer Pro-Visions, 1992 Fleer Rookie Sensations, Team Pinnacle cards, and there are a couple of 1991 Leaf Gold Rookies (Klesko and Bagwell). I also remember the 1991 Stadium Club Jeff Bagwell, Chuck Knoblauch, and Nolan Ryan TUXEDO being SMOKING HOT.

Good thread.
