It's crazy to me to think about how many relic cards they could make from one jersey/entire uniform or one bat. And yet, as we have discussed here previously, it seems as companies try to cheap out when ever possible. I noticed even with other collectables this year when I purchased a Jacob Miziorowski bobble head at one of our clubhouse sales it was about 4 inches shorter than the Cookie Monster bobble head that the team gave away just 3 years ago...
Profit... all about the bottom line. They're thinkin' "how little can we do and people still buy?" If it's memorabilia... we'll buy. And they know this. I had to go with my Grandma to buy a new washer for clothes (to make sure they weren't ripping her off) and the salesman flat out said you're lucky if you get 4-5 years out of it before it either breaks down or it needs repairs that cost as much as a new one. That's a little off topic, but you get what I'm sayin'.... these companies know what we need and want as consumers and make it cheap or make it so it doesn't last. It's crazy to me to think about how many relic cards they could make from one jersey/entire uniform or one bat. I don't follow baseball anywhere near as much as I used to but I was shocked to find out last year that there was a player who had won batting titles the last 3 seasons. (2022-2024). I had never heard his name before and certainly have never seen anyone ask for his cards here which is seemingly always Judge, Ohtani, Trout. But a career .317 batting average and three batting titles means nothing anymore. Much like wins for pitchers , batting average statistics for current players are often missing in their stat lines. Talk about the game changing!! Makes me wonder if guys like Gwynn, Boggs, Ozzie, Carew and other players like that would even be considered stars in today's "swing hard, throw hard, walk, take nap" game?.

From the little baseball I watch the TV stations use these ultra zoom cameras now. It seems like these players are more concerned about their image now. That goes with all sports of course, but to me baseball was that burly, dirty, I don't give a F kinda sport. Now teams are wearing neon uniforms with armor on arms and legs and hardly any possibility of getting dirty. Sad how the TV Networks took over sports...I don't follow baseball anywhere near as much as I used to but I was shocked to find out last year that there was a player who had won batting titles the last 3 seasons. I started to listen to The road to Cooperstown podcast and John Smoltz said something very similar, but talking about the social media aspect of it. But that's why players like Buxton and Sal Frelick and other Dirt Dogs are my favoritesFrom the little baseball I watch the TV stations use these ultra zoom cameras now.
