Just got back my BGS gradings... Tedd Williams, Joe D, J Bench...

First time guys....lol. I really just wanted to get these 3 nice autos preserved, plus I had coupons so I got some Sheffs graded as well. Now my question is, is an 8.5 bad? Does it decrease the value of the card? Because the majority of my cards came back 8.5's which I thought was decent and pretty much just face value of the card. 9 could improve a little but not a lot and anything below 8.5 was bad. That was just my initial thoughts but correct me if I'm wrong. The only one I'm mad about is the Ted Williams, I shouldn't have sent it in, I knew the corner looked bad but hey it was worth a shot in my eyes.

Personally 8.5 is good,I have a couple of 8.5 graded cards and I can't tell much of a difference from 9.5 or 10 but....I have tried to sell and trade 8.5 grade and lower grade cards with no success at all and I have one that is a 3/5 Dontrelle Willis auto that nobody wanted when he was a hot commidity in 03/04 because of an 8.5 grade.Overall in my opinion grading has hurt the hobby way more than helping..Very nice cards by the way..As long as you are happy with them that's what counts

Yeah that's what I was thinking I mean a Joe Dimaggio auto will always be a Joe Dimaggio auto... same with Ted Williams. I dont know, I'm not that worried about it I suppose.

As far as resale value goes, 8.5 on a non-vintage card is a tough sell. The exception would be on cards from a set that is well-known as being condition sensitive (such as 86 topps baseball and 85 topps football). As Go Fish said, though, if you're happy, that's all that matters.

on the higher end stuff, it would be great to have a high grade...but you are still looking at whatever the BV is on those...its not going to hurt that vs. a non-graded...those Williams autos are very condition sensitive...you don't see many of them show up for sale much less higher grade...so you would not be any worse off for having those graded in my opinion and even as they are 7.5 and 8.5's you wouldn't get any less than you would if you hadn't got them graded...so...they are protected, the autos all scored 10's...thats the important part...if you have a 7.5 with an 8 auto then you would be looking at a problem...7.5 with a 10 is not bad for that particular card.

also...the GU stuff hardly ever grades out high...they get damaged to easy in packing and shipping...if you get a 9 or higher you did great lol.

Thanks, this was my first time and just had some vouchers so I had to submit some... 5 of the Sheffs are for my PC and some are numbered to 10 or less but I still wanted them preserved.

I believe cards that grade a bgs 8.5 sell for a tad less than raw. I personally do not like slabs and any time I've received a card graded below a 9, I've popped them out asap which is half the fun. However, I do believe it's better to have the dimaggio and maybe the ted williams slabbed because they received the 10 auto grades and indicates the cards are not altered, even if the ted williams is a 7.5. The only reason I ever grade cards is to increase value as there are much cheaper and very safe options other than slabbing to protect cards.

Had two 2001 spx auto of Albert Pujols graded and they both came back PSA 8.5 ....Don't have much luck with PSA Grading system. Best regards, David
