I took this picture myself when I was 13. HoF Paul Warfield catching a pass from Griese against the Saints.
The auto is authentic. He signed it for me.

Very cool! When it comes to 60/70s football I am like a moth to a flame! Do you remember what year this was?

This picture got me curious as to how Warfield went to the Dolphins from the Browns. After looking it up, he was traded for the third pick in the draft which the Browns used on QB Mike Phipps For some reason I thought it was a contract dispute but it endsup it was just a shocking (to Warfield at least) trade. I think a contract dispute is why he, Jim Kiick and Larry Csonka went to the upstart and short lived WLAF.

November 15, 1970 against New Orleans at the Orange Bowl. #21 defending is Joe Scarpati. By researching all the plays in the game, I believe this one was in the 3rd quarter.

Great stuff! I was actually wondering who that Saint was in the background so you answered a question of mine that I never asked! . I hed been guessing Dave Whitsell but I found out he left the Saints the year before and wore 23. Thanks for the info of the when, where and who (Joe Scarpati) on this.

There are a few Joe Scarpati cards - the 1970 is on the Saints, though he's wearing an Eagles uni. I'm thinking I should pick one up.

And to add to the story, it was on the prior Sunday (Nov 8) that Scarpati was the holder on Tom Dempsey's record breaking 63 yard FG to beat the Lions 19-17!

That deserves a WOW since that is one of the most iconic plays in NFL history! That is awesome you were there!! Even more impressive about Dempsey's kick was it ws outdoors and not at altitude. Every football fan knew who kicked that record long field goal but I'm certain very few can name who has it now. I sure can't name who kicked the current record kick of 67 yards but I know the Lions were the victims of the record breaker AGAIN!! Poor Lions. Gee ****!

Another Benchie was in the stands for another iconic moment in NFL history. Tom Fullen (Chieftazmisty) was at the game where Y. A. Title took that severe hit from John Baker of the Steelers and was photographed in that iconic picture on his knees, helmet off and blood running down his head. I think that photo won some huge award that year.

Apparently if you have "Chief" in your Bench username, you'll get to witness an historic NFL moment live and in person!!

Sorry Symphonic, I didn't mean to imply I was at the game. Although I did watch it on TV at the time if that counts.

My mistake. I tend to read things too fast which outpaces my mental abilities! LOL
I was at all home games of the perfect season. No iconic moment, but an iconic six months.

If either of you has a Scarpati to trade, I'll find something for you. Otherwise I have to buy one through GMC.
Or a Warfield, for that matter. I only have a '68.

I was a Browns fan at the time. They played them tough in the 1st round playoff game. Cleveland actually had a lead in the 4th quarter.

Are you looking for 1970 Topps cards of those 2 players specifically or just any card of those guys? I should be able to help you

Could be any. This thread made me think it would be fun to have the '70. I hadn't actually thought of it before.
