oh booo hoooo hooo everyone, these people work hard and make mistakes. sure their are bad apples as stated earlier, but i mean come on. way to many people have stellar success and no issues to say that they "Whole System sucks" becasue threads like this just burn my butt with you people! and if you dont like the service you get then get in your car and drive it to the destination yourself. i have dozens of packages between the shop, business and my stuff every week and no issue here. maybe thats becasue we have a ton of great people out here and everyone really cares too. but comeone cry me a river already....

So, if people continue to throw packages around, and step on your stuff..You call that a mistake?

You do not need to use the post office if there are that many problems. UPS and Fed Ex will gladly take anyone's business. I have also had no problems with the post office since I have been trading here on the bench. There was one time I did not receive my cards that I traded for. But one time out of almost 1000 transactions is not bad.The post office here in Oxford,MA is great. The only time I ever had a problem at the post office was in Groton,CT. It was one lady who was probably the worst customer service person I have ever met. So I did not go to her ever again. I just think that if the post office goes out of business we will really see high prices. People never really miss something until it is gone.

Actually, I think that would fall under the 'bad apple' tree in the next sentence. Does every employee at that branch do that? Does every one of them have a bad attitude? Does everyone in Manitowoc have the same problem with them?

Actually if you have read the post you would know I was looking for others who have had similar problems with the P.O. and not to listen to people who don't have these problems complain to the people who do. I wanted to know if others have had more problems recently and have found out a lot of others have. Certain places have ****** service while other places are fine, that is how almost every business is that has different locations. I guess if I have problems in one area I just won't trade with that person anymore thanks to their wonderful P.O.

I guess we did kind of steal your thread and not give you any real advice at all. i for one apoligize for that. My suggestion would be to try and find a different post office to use in your area. I know that with the price of gas this may be little bit of an inconvenience but if you are happy with the service you get at a different location let them know about it and let that post office know about the other post office. Word would most likely spread and maybe something could get done.

Hope this helps.

Sounds like a good idea. I think I will try that for a few months and see what happens. I will ask a few friends around town to see how their P.O.'s are.
Thanks for the input.

When all is said and done, if I am dealing with a profession and I have to hear an "oops", a damaged package isn't all that bad. I would tend to worry a lot more if it was a doctor or a pilot......

Great, more 'old school'. Have you TRIED to hire people recently? I recently ran an ad hiring for a position. The starting pay was $12-15/hr depending on qualifications, full time hours with medical and dental benefits, 401k, etc. By the time the ad was posted 3 hours, I had 4 resumes and 2 other people wanting to talk about it, by the end of the next day I had 14 people, I called or emailed every one of them to talk about the job, and schedule a time for an interview. Four people responded and set up interviews within the next 3 days, THREE of those showed up, ONE said he'd love the job but we would need to switch the hours for him, ONE rescheduled the interview twice, and the one interview that went smoothly and was the best fit couldn't afford to take the job even after we upped the max starting pay. The time I had to hire someone before that was almost identical. One ad, 15 interviews set up by lunch the following day, 4 showed up, 2 telling us they'd work different hours, one would need several weeks off in the coming 6 months, and the one we hired that could work those hours and didn't need time off called in for personal reasons 5 of the 6 days she was here.

There are plenty of good, hard-working folks out there who would kill for a good job. There are also some nuts out there who will waste your time. Comes with the territory. If they don't work out, get rid of them and start over. Eventually you will comeup with the right people. Seems to work for my company.

I wonder if I trade with you, and the USPS loses the package coming to you, would an "oops" make you feel better? LOL

+1

That was the rationale behind my earlier post. I had a similar problem and went to another PO. Never had problems again. You have to go out on a limb somewhere when mailing.

if it took this bit of advice to figure this issue out then there really are some issues here. i for one have to drive 15 miles ONE WAY to get to a PO where i can mail ANYTHING. yet i will more than bet you have 5 or 6 within that mile limit and yet you cant use more than one PO... PLease come on... im not apologetic for not offering advice but i get tired of people moaning about what to do to fix this problem. go and try to send a small flat style letter UPS or FED EX and see what the cost is then, and sadly they have some bad apples too. same all over. you just have to find someplace that has good service. becasue its out there believe me it is.

I have been lucky when it somes to the PO (knock On wood) as I have done 400 (in/Out)packages this year with NO issues...in fact they have done a great job except around the holidays when things really slowed down. I sent and recieved from DK in Cali to FLA in 3 days ! to me that is outstanding. I can hit mike in nj and rob in louisville in about 2 days.... I also have been paying the extra to put hand cancel and I am very satisfied with the PWE result again going both ways. I guess I should count my blessings instead of taking it for granted...
Like my dad used to say if you are not happy with something vote with your feet !

That gets me wondering a little also, as I make a lot of PWE trades with one or two cards in a hard card holder and have never had a problem in all 8 years of doing this. But I just had a trade mailed in a bubble mailer inside a larger hard card and it apparently arrived bent in half but the trader said that the package was not mangled at all. I haven't got it back yet but it seems to me that this might have been done intentionally. I haven't got the cards back yet but bending a hard card holder in half in abubble mailer doesn't seem like it would be very easy or just an accident. Maybe it's just the frustration caused by the holidays as I usually don't have many problems.

There are two PO close, but that's it and I have never had luck at the other one. I think it might be worth it to travel a few extra miles to use my in laws PO in the next town. I used to mail from there and never had problems and the people were very nice also. It's a small town and maybe they care just a little more. I will just have to mail things out once a week. I also think I will insure my larger trades from now on because at least I won't be totally out everything if something does happen. I guess it's come to the point where it might be worth it to spend the extra cash.

This thread makes me want to go postal. (I'm sure I may offend someone with that, but I thought it was fitting :) )

Part of the problem is the government, in general... Seems like everything they touch eventually goes under. The more and more this country leans toward socialism, the more problems we're going to have. There is no accountability in government. If dealing with private mail, would be less problems. I couldn't tell you how many times I've received envelopes that were torn open at a corner and "peeked" into for potential cash. As a result of mismanagement, many PO's are predicted to be closed due ot budgetary reasons. The PO is an example of a much bigger picture/problem with the government.
Thanks,
Pete

I disagree with the "as a result of mismanagement" part. Under the law, the post office HAS to deliver to everybody at a uniform cost. With the advent of email, online payments, etc, they now have significantly less revenue, but still HAVE to serve the same amount of people. It costs me the same to mail a letter from the Twin Cities to Chicago as it does from the Twin Cities to a small town in the hillside of Vermont or to the middle of the Idaho wilderness even though the costs to get them there vary greatly. The volume of mail has dropped roughly 19% since 2001, and is expected to drop as much as an additional 37% but they can't just drop unprofitable routes to help offset these costs. Congress has mandated that they serve almost every mailing address 6 days a week, this is fixed, so post offices have to be open, fleets have to run, these are costs that can't just be dropped on a whim. They are not allowed to just close low volume post offices, they have to give 60 days notice and anyone served by that office can appeal the closure, and they aren't allowed to close post offices solely due to operating at a deficit.
