Oh man.. that's a first! lol I actually traded my other Dawson auto a few weeks prior to acquiring this one, I had it for over 10 years so it was time to switch things up. I like this one better anyway, like I said... simple design with big on-card auto and great photo. Ya, I think I made a good decision on this one.
I got curious about vintage Len Dawson cards so I looked up his RC. WOW!! What a cool card his Rookie is, '63 Fleer, and valuable... my goodness! While looking at that card I saw a "card" put out by a bank in Cleveland featuring him. I didn't know he played for Cleveland! I always thought he was always a Chief the way my Dad and Grandparents talked about him (family from K.C.). Didn't he become a sports reporter for a news station in KC way after his playing career? For some reason that rings a bell, I may be waay off on that one...
And ya, @bfd13, I heard that too about him. For some reason I those old school players are always alot nicer and patient with fans than the "modern" players for some reason. When I was at a signing in Houston I asked Charlie Waters about maybe trying to contact Roger Staubach to ask if he would be willing to sign my full sized helmet with Cowboys legends and how to go about doing it. He said, oh man, just go up to his office at his real-estate firm and ask! He's a puppy dog! lmao
I never saw your old Dawson auto or I would have been after that. Pretty cool you had both a Dawson auto and a Lamonica auto since both were starting QBs for the ultra heated Chiefs-Raiders tivalry in the late 60s/early 70s. When those two teams got together it was a massive brawl where a football game would break out! LOL

When Dawson joined the AFL he palyed for the Dallas Texans who later moved to KC and became the Chiefs. Take a look at his 1964 Topps card and you can see he is wearing a Browns jersey. Way to update things Topps! Speaking of the Dallas Texans , you should find the book "Ten-Gallon War" which was about the battle for pro football in Dallas between the Texans and some team named the Cowboys (or something like that).

Yeah Dawson's RC is super hard to findsas is the entire 1963 Fleer football set. Lance Alworth's RC is in it too as well as two short print commons that are worth a bundle.

I'm pretty sure Dawson was a color commentaor for CBS after his retirement.

How many HoF did they have? Dawson, Bell, Buchanan, Robinson, Stenerud, plus Otis Taylor and Jim Tyrer who are perennially on the Senior Committee ballot. (Tyrer would have gotten in years ago if not for the murder-suicide, which we now understand was likely due to severe CTE). And Coach Stram, and owner Hunt. Am I missing anyone?
We also forgot Curley Culp as a HOFer! That guy's HOF induction speech was amazing! He sounded like a college professor. What a impressive guy he was!

I just won this at auction for $30. It's a 2nd year McCovey. His RC is out of my budget range, but I think I did pretty good with this one (it's my pic that's keystoning, the card is super sharp).

Breaking the rules a little... but I know how swimmers are perceived, even if it is Michael Phelps. So I decided to just post the rainbow as it is now. There are 5 more, but may be out of reach for me. I MIGHT be able to compete for the Gold Refractor numbered to /50, and U.S. Flag Refractor numbered to /76 but Black (/10), Oarnge (/25), and Red (/5) will be crazy tough to get!
