Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the first soccer style kicker was Pete Gogolak for the Buffalo Bills. Then came his brother Charlie, with the Washington team. And the next one was Garo Yepremian, who started in Detroit before becoming a pro-bowler with Miami. It could be skiers are people too as Stenerud was origianly a skier.
The first player to be inducted into the pro football HOF who was strictly a kicker. Ray Guy and Michigan State's own Morton Anderson are the other two HOFers who fit this category. I know he wasn't the first soccer style kicker in pro football but his success really paved the way for so many others to follow.
Glad to see Jan is still alive. So many members of those great 60s Chiefs teams have passed away. Bobby Bell and Wille Lanier are two prominat Chiefs from thatera that are thankfully still with us. Man, I really miss those old Chiefs teams!
You are correct. But I posted that Stenerud was not the first soccer style kicker but rather the most consistant one that paved the way for others. It took a while for the NFL to totally convert to soccer style.Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the first soccer style kicker was Pete Gogolak for the Buffalo Bills. Those 81-82 Topps hockey and basketball sets with their regional issues are a real bear to complete if you don't buy online like me. That Ciccarelli RC was the one listed card I needed to finish that set. Several years ago I picked up the Ciccarelli RC (several copies in fact) in a huge trade locally. That left me needing only 6 common cards to finish the set.............all West ones of course. And 3 or 4 years later, I STILL need those 6 cards!!! SMH!
One of the greatest hockey names ever.....or a Soprano character.....
The real question is what university did Stenerud attend on a skiing scholarship? It could be skiers are people too as Stenerud was origianly a skier.

Had that one, at one point years ago. Never realized he was in the Hockey HOF. But loved those early 80's Stars teams. (Smith, Christopher, Dino, amongst others)
How dare you besmirch my Home (birth) state.Had to look that one up up... won't give it away, but I forgot that was even a state! lol
I think it was Montana State. The real question is what university did Stenerud attend on a skiing scholarship?
Correct!I think it was Montana State.
I knew you'd take notice of the North Stars card right after you posted about them moving to Dallas of all places. Now a days there are all kind of warm weather NHL teams. I remember the Atlanta Flames not working out and moving to Calgary where there is actually ICE!!!!
Garo was the coolest dude. I knew him a little bit. He once let me and a friend come onto the sideline - don't remember if it was during or after a game. I was maybe 12. I know this is post a card forum but I'm gonna post a picture I took of him in 1970.You are correct. But I posted that Stenerud was not the first soccer style kicker but rather the most consistant one that paved the way for others. It took a while for the NFL to totally convert to soccer style.
I'm disappointed! I thought for sure this was going to be a card of Charley Taylor! He was from the mean streets of Grand Prairie, Texas. Maybe you haveheard of that place?Been up all night working... work I enjoy, though. Until the eyelids start to droop... COFFEE COFFEE COFFEE!!!

Hey alot of people heard of GP... IH30 and IH20 run right thru the city. It's situated almost directly between Dallas and Ft. Worth. Off of IH30 there's a big auditorium that has frequent big name bands and singers... and less than a mile from that there's a nice horse track.I'm disappointed! I thought for sure this was going to be a card of Charley Taylor! He was from the mean streets of Grand Prairie, Texas. Maybe you haveheard of that place?
