That 1967 Brooks Robinson was one of the early iconic cards in the infancy of card collecting. In early annual price guides that card showed up on the cover of those fairly frequently.
My brother who is in to old cards as well as I, knows full well the iconic status this card has had for me for decades. About two years ago he bought a late 60s/early 70s collection and there was only one 1967 Topps card in it. Amazingly, it was the Brooks! The collection was all from the sellers childhood so it was not something he bought later on. What are the chances of that happening? It was not in great shape but still.
Lately everyone's been hyping the 1995 Pinnacle Griffey card because the image shows him with his cap on backwards and blowing a bubble gum bubble,yet this card came out 3 years prior to that:

In Wisconsin, they stopped when my oldest was in 4th grade (graduated in 20) so about 2011/12 school year. I have heard that some districts have reinstated it, but it really should be still taught. Just saying.
That Pinnacle card you're talking about is definitely photoshopped. The gum looks so fake!! This one, though, looks legit! Even if he was just sittin there normal it'd be a cool card.
I remember learning it in 3rd grade, maybe? There was a strip above the blackboard that had all the letters; upper and lower case in cursive.........I never used it, only printed the letters, much easier for people to read.........
My district in TX taught it about that age too... but I stopped writing in cursive in middle school. Easier to write and read for sure!

Mostly. He played in 926 games from 2001 to 2020, scoring 876 points (443 G & 433 A). Three time All-Star and a perenniel top 20 for awards and leaderboards. Not too shabby of a career!

I'd say the hype was real!
That card is selling for big money right now being a short print rookie variation. I sent mine in for grading through SGC. PSA 10's are selling for north of 2K
