My dad was a teacher and the other big card collector besides me in the area was also a teacher. My dad and he used to get those empty government cheese boxes to store cards in. To this day the other teacher and I STILL use tons of those boxes for card storage 4+ decades later. Oddly enough "cheese boxes" were better than the first wave of fold up card storage boxes as they all seemed to have a ridged floor where the cheese boxes were smooth and would not damage cards due to careless handling.
Same with us

Bet y'all forgot about me collecting players that also served in a branch of the U.S. military..... Let me tell ya, this one was worth the wait! You think "Hero" and this man should immediately pop in your head!!

First the card. Then a short Wikipedia article.... PLEASE read the article. Absolutely AMAZING what this man accomplished.

I did read that page and besides playing professional football, winning the Congressional Medal of Honor and becoming the Lt. Governor of Arkansas, this guy really did not do much with his life.

I had never heard of him before but his life story was amazing indeed.

I wish your sarcasm could be better represented through a computer screen! 4 Purple Hearts?! Basically standing up and telling the Germans "here I am shoot me" so his troop could find where they had their gun positioned! Nearly blown in half by a rocket... then saying he was lucky! Why wasn't there a movie made about him??? And to think... players today crying about having to play 1 more game. SMH...

Ha! I think my sarcasim was very obvious. Like you said it's shocking that a movie was not made about this guy. Did you find out about him because of him being from your region or was that proximity coincidental?

Coincidence intirely.
I mean... him being with Patton in North Africa and Italy is a plot starter alone. I believe he fought in Anzio. That's a movie in itself. I'm sure they could squeeze another movie in for John Wayne... lol

Or a movie with James Arness who was severely wounded at Anzio.

VIVA LA DIE CUT!!!!! That card is as cool as the other side of the pillow.....I think we've read the same book!
There it is!! Viva!! If they were just a bit more rare, say /500 instead of /3000 it would be top 20 Irvins... came across it last night going through the "low end" Cowboys box... too cool to stay in there. It got a seat at the grown ups table immediately!

Not a valuable card by any means, but a die-cut acetate card is pretty cool in my book.

I really like those Donruss QBC inserts and won't trade any away unless I have more than one. I have been looking for years for the last base card of that set which is #116 Jake Plummer. I can't pick that card up to save my life. Just another example of why I am the self proclaimed "King of the One and Dones".

I'm tellin u... just like that Danny White card. These players find all of their own cards and hoard them so people will remember them and actually look for cards of theirs!!

Kind of like the odd case of Bo Jackson for me. I have two 1991 Scorte baseball sets where I have 892 of 893 cards missing only a #692 Bo Jackson Master Blaster card for both. At most that would be a minor star but I cannot get one anywhere! On the flip side I have forty seven extra 1987 Topps Bo Jackson RCs and I have ZERO idea of how I got so many. Certainly not from packs and I never traded for any nor bought any as singles. Yes, I kept those when I purged my collection of junk era commons over the years but that doesn't account for having 47 duplicates of that card.

That Danny White situation was another strange case. I couple of years ago I had a ton of 1979 Topps football dups in all conditions. So I decided to put together a NM and a ****** set of them. Things were going swimmingly for the first 428 cards until I hit #429 Danny White and I did not have a single copy of it!! It ended up being the only card I lacked for both sets! I finally got them here after some time but gee ****.

But being the "Schmart " boy that I am, I recently picked up another in a recent trade just in case I decide to make yet another 1979 set. So take that Danny White!
