Personally, my trading really started to trail off when UD lost their license. With Topps having the monopoly, the commitment to new, exciting and reasonably priced product is no longer a concern. At least back in 05, they really had to produce some nice stuff in order to compete with DLP, Fleer and UD. Back then, trades were easy to come by. There were tons of sets out there for collecting and trading. Now, I only collect the base Topps set, and once I complete it, there really isn't much trading to do. I actually have more free cards sent than I do trades lately.
In order to support my OCD for cards, I started working my way backwards to 1970 for my sets. I have finished 1976, 1974, 1973 this year, and chasing these old cards has been very fulfilling.
I agree, it has been slow lately. There seem to be small bumps in activity when new products get released.
I like the idea of a trade night. We have tried this in the chatroom a few times. I also like that all of you great members are trying to help us with activity here. Just goes to show what a tight group of friends we have here.
If you want help setting something up, let me know and I will see what I can do.
Thanks,
