After reading most of the posts on Champs96ws I have to agree the Site seems a bit slow. I myself had not visited and forgot my password. I was thinking of selecting a day where we all commit to making at least one trade or sale. Most of my stuff is put away so mine most likely would be a card or cards that I will blow out. Let me know your opinion on this and a good day to do it. Maybe this can stir up the Site and add some Bench points to our totals. What do you think?

It's worth a shot. Coming back to the site, even in a smaller quantity, might reinvigorate your interest.

I'm guessing that you won't be able to get a commitment to specific days of use from a large population of people. The site offers different things for different people and if that "thing" they seek is absent, then so are they. Trading has it's fluctuations; depending on seasons, schedules, products being released, types of traders, etc. That will probably always be cyclical.

I have not spent enough time on any other card sites like this, but i have often stumbled upon popular threads from other sites that are very informative and helpful. I have seen many that continue for 10+ pages or more. That is one thing i just don't see here. We don't have enough participation in the discussion areas outside of a couple dozen or so members. It seems to me that people do like this site for the trading, but little else. Obviously the topic has to be a draw to enough people to have that type of participation and that won't happen on every topic, but with enough interested members and solid topics, the discussions shouldn't fizzle after 3-4 comments. Even "fun topics" that should have a broad draw to any collector don't fair that well here often.

here is one example I bookmarked for future use (I have a few others I bookmarked, but can't find at the moment):

I just don't want to be a member of multiple boards though and don't really have the time to learn the layout, get to know the members and involve myself to that level in that many sites.

I would do that but most people don't need what I have. I am limited to pre-2009 cards, and really most of my stuff is pre-2007 with minimal stuff from 08 & 09. And, my needs are pretty narrow - although I will do what I can to help someone if they need something I have - so that also limits my ability to work deals. All that said, if you come up with something LMK.

I try and do at least 10 trades every month but it is becoming a serious struggle. I am trying to buy some commons and even that is next to impossible. Maybe it is the state of the hobby. I went to a show last Sunday and they even had a former Boston Bruins player signing autographs and there were maybe 10 people at the show. I would be all for selecting a day for maybe everyone to try and make a trade but football season may not work for a weekend and I like to think that most people work during the weekdays so maybe a week day evening/night may work. I recently did join another site but the traffic is so slow there I could not believe it. I even made some posts to try and stir up some conversation but nothing seemed to work. I really hope that the trading picks up but maybe that is just wishful thinking. I realize I do not have the top money cards to trade and maybe that is why my trading has slowed. If that is the direction the hobby is going then maybe it is just not the hobby for me anymore.

Personally, my trading really started to trail off when UD lost their license. With Topps having the monopoly, the commitment to new, exciting and reasonably priced product is no longer a concern. At least back in 05, they really had to produce some nice stuff in order to compete with DLP, Fleer and UD. Back then, trades were easy to come by. There were tons of sets out there for collecting and trading. Now, I only collect the base Topps set, and once I complete it, there really isn't much trading to do. I actually have more free cards sent than I do trades lately.
In order to support my OCD for cards, I started working my way backwards to 1970 for my sets. I have finished 1976, 1974, 1973 this year, and chasing these old cards has been very fulfilling.

I agree, it has been slow lately. There seem to be small bumps in activity when new products get released.

I like the idea of a trade night. We have tried this in the chatroom a few times. I also like that all of you great members are trying to help us with activity here. Just goes to show what a tight group of friends we have here.

If you want help setting something up, let me know and I will see what I can do.

Thanks,

I'd give it a shot, my work has been crazy for over 6 months, so there's lots of new stuff to track down.

Great idea Yanks21. Maybe we could make it a Trade Week, starting when the World Series starts. Sounds like fun.

I personally only collect topps and am not intereeested in anything else. i had a collection of each companies set for each year since 1980 including their traded or rookies set and have since broken that up and dealt most of that away.

I am also not working so that makes purchasing items a bit difficult. shipping costs rising doesn't help matters at all. I get a factory complete set of topps for Christmas every year so during the year I concentrate on the opening day set and the traded/update highlights set at the end. archives was interesting to chase because it was only 200 cards but decided not to pursue it any longer. heritage doesn't appeal to me at all, just don't like the hand drawn cards. chrome is tooooo expensive for the amount of cards you get. i mean 4 cards per pack??!!! 6 cards would be nicer!!! so i just try to trade for the complete set and that is starting to get difficult. a few years ago there were some traders who would be willing to get a set and deal it, now everyone wants to get their $$ worth and trade singles all day so they get full b.v. for them. i understand doing that if all you want to do is make $$ but i am a collector and keep what i get for my collection.

with me not purchasing new stuff, I try to trade for what I want and that means trying to trade older stuff which seems EVERYONE has. I love trading on here because there are so many different traders with a VAST variety of items to trade. yes i am a member of 2 other sites, 1 site is ran by a member on here and the other site, well i check once in a green moon.

with that said, check my signature and i have a large wantlist of cards i am looking for to complete some sets, sorry i don't have a trade page created just yet but am working on building one. just let me know what area of collecting you are into and i will let you know what i have to offer. just to list some, i have 2 threads of rookies for sale on here with a disclaimer that some may no longer be available, and i have plenty of star player cards you just have to list the player.

thanks for reading.

I say do it and I'll try and make a few trades, if the site performs right...............That seems to be hit or miss for me lately...........That's why I've not been on regularly, it's very frustrating............Been picking up stuff off COMC and the other place we all know and love.................It's easier and not as much of a hassle..................
