Found this Stan Musial 2005 Ultimate Signature Edition Signature Numbers auto 1 of 1. It is number #SN-SM. The one of one is printed on the front, and I was curious if anyone has seen any others from this set. Just wanted to make sure it isn't something stamped later, meaning not a factory stamp. Beckett.com does show a 1/1 Platinum.

Thinking I stole this pretty cheap, so wanted to check what I have. I got it from the guys at Stan The Man, Inc., but I don't think this is a sample card that the players get. I haven't seen any of the 1 of 1s though, so I am not sure. Thanks for your imput, Tony.

That is what I am wondering. If that is what the platinum 1 of 1s look like. If so, maybe somehow it got into the hands of Stan The Man, Inc. They had several cards there autographed, but none of them were serial numbered. I know players get some cards of issues, and was wondering if this one some how managed it's way into their inventory by mistake.

Beckett.com shows this:
2005 Ultimate Signature Numbers Platinum #SM Stan Musial AU, S# 1 Item has no pricing.

But I have tried to search to see what platinums may look like, when it comes to the 1 of 1s. Haven't seen any of the signature numbers 1/1s though. It just might be, as here is a Brooks Robinson auto 1 of 1, and when I look at the enlarged picture, the text is the same - http://cgi.ebay.com/BROOKS-ROBINSON...0526001693?pt=US_Baseball&hash=item256018661d

Just seemed odd for it to be sitting on their table. It was the only one stamped 1 of 1, so it isn't anything they do I don't believe. Figured for price they were asking, I was going to snatch that thing up.

You know, here is an intersting couple of facts that I found out over the weekend regarding Musial. These two stats shocked me, and made me think "what a model of consistancy".

Do you realize that Musial had a career .331 batting average --- but, he hit .331 vs left handed pitching, and also hit .331 vs right handed pitching.

And to go even further, he had a career 3630 hits --- 1815 at home, and 1815 on the road.

Just some interesting facts that I learned over the weekend, and never knew before then.

Tglg- that's an awesome card. I have some info for you regarding that card and set. I think you will find it interesting to say the least. A friend of mine sent me a link to your thread. I am a regular on another baseball board because he knows my passion for Ultimate Signature and could give you some
info. I will PM you.

Totally sweet card, suprised it was there of all places. You know auto is real, just figuring out if it a true 1/1 is the question.

upper deck used that type for 1/1's in that time frame. of more concern would be whether or not the AUTO is secondary market. does it have the auto "congrats" back?

I've been collecting Ultimate Signature since 2005 shortly after it released. I can tell you quite a bit about the set, including the platinum 1/1s. This is an odd thing because this is the second version of this card to surface. Here is my version:

musial_numbers_1of1_before_after.jpg

What you are seeing on the left is how I purchased the card off ebay. It came with a sticker auto attached. The card on the right is the same card after I peeled the sticker and had it signed by Stan Musial. I also added the Musial sticker cert on the back of the card.

What you'll notice about the "1 of 1" stamp on the card I have and Tony's card is that the font face is slightly different. In all, I've recorded approximately four 1/1s from both Numbers and Decades that had either this font variation in the stamped "1/1", or that had a sticker placed on them rather than being hard-signed.

So my question is how did two 1/1 versions of this card get produced and released? Never seen this before.
