Especially since he had major substance abuse and legal problems. I'm shocked to see he is still alive much less financially solvent. He did write several books so I'm sure that helped him on the money front. Seems like he came out the other side OK which is nice to see.
Wow! That is a cool card! All the dicussion of vintage Cowboys we've had I'm shocked his name never came up. Hall of Fame ability derailed by personal demons. Such a shame.
He was exremely well known "back inb the day" due to a combination of his on field ability and his colorful personality. I actually had to look up when his RC was and it is 1978 Topps. He only had two regular issue cards made of him which was surprising given his notoriety............1979 Topps being the other.
Another small school gem the Cowboys always seem to find. Langston University in Oklahoma.
Ya, I honestly didn't know much about him other than the drugs and lottery win. lol
Apparently he runs a charity and sells anti-drug videos now.
Wow! $150? I'd guess that card is only a dollar or two raw. In a million years it would never occur to me to get one graded but obviously others do.
Some of these MJ and Kobe prices just floor me. The 1993-94 Jordan base card is $150 which is down from $200. It is a base card from a not too scarce modern issue for heaven's sake. I'd have guessed the most valuable card in that Finest set would have been Chris Webber's RC but I'll bet that card's bv is no where close to $150.
You know how it goes with that number up top! 9, 9.5, 10.... you're gunna have to pay quite a bit extra. I have no idea what the BV on this is either, but the average raw card asking price is around $10.
My other 2 Jordans that I don't know BV's of are in the $3-$5 asking price range. And they have some surface/corner issues. I'm just happy with the Sam Vincent NBA Hoops card showing Jordan wearing #12... and the back story to it! lol
Card show pickups......picked this one up a few weeks ago, sitting in the middle of the display case surrounded by new shiny stuff....sticker said $18, was going to pay that, he said $15, I said sure! Great color, clean back, thought it was a great example of a 55 Topps.....
Very nice! You can keep the shiny stuff and I'll take the vintage. Lujack died only a little over 2 years ago at age 98.
Talk about how small of a deal the NFL was in the 40s and 50s check out why Lujack quit the Chicago Bears to pursue other professional interests.
After four years with the Bears, Lujack returned to Notre Dame as an assistant coach for 1952 and 1953 to repay Frank Leahy as a debt of gratitude for having given him a scholarship to Notre Dame

This along with the 1965 Topps Football are the first sportscard sets I remember.
Hey TC, I don't know if you realize this but back in the day the Cowboys were quite good. I was watching the 1967 Eastern Conference Championship beween the Cowboys and the Browns and Dallas won 52-14. This win put them in The Ice Bowl as Green Bay beat the Rams in the Western Conference Championship that same weekend. I know after 30 years of futility the fact that the Cowboys were once good comes as a surprise to you but it is in fact true!.
And to top it off their QB's name did not rhyme with Gak and no one had a nose ring. Who knew?
Bob Lilly would have ripped that thing outta his nose the first time he fumbled inside the 5 yard line... or Larry Allen if Zeke played in that era.
I had heard of the Cowboys being a dominant team long ago. I witnessed a few of their epic games in the 90s at Texas Stadium... The Thanksgiving Game against the Dolphins when it snowed and all the toilets froze, and Leon Lett cost The Cowboys the game. The '95 NFC Championship game against the Packers. And the 3 catch, 3 touchdown game of Randy Moss in '98...
And about DAK.... Cowboys are kinda stuck with him. And to be quite honest, it's the Defense (or lack there of) that keeps tanking The Cowboys...
Hard to believe there have been 60 Super Bowls and Dallas has not been in one since Super Bowl 30, So their dominance was in the first half of the Super Bowl era so far and nothing since. For a team that is always at the forefront of the NFL mindset that 30 year run of futility is truely mind boggling!
We all know the NFL is a business first, sport second... Jerry Jones is a business man with an ego too big for him to admit he isn't qualified for the sport aspect, even after all these years. There's only one way he will give up ultimate control. Until that day comes we (Cowboys fans) have to watch the same season over and over again; it's like "Groundhog Day"!
51 Bowman Small....in Madison probably the 70s thru the 90s, there was always the Crazy legs Run! Remember the commercials for it on local tv.....never partook in the festivities, this body was not designed to run....
WOW! Now that is an impressive card!!! I'd love to know what grade that would get.
I;m pretty sure he was the A.D. of Wisconsin for a long time. I think he hired Barry Alverez off of Lou Holtz's Notre Dame staff which was the guy who turned their football program around although I'd have to look that up.
Edit: Hirsch was Wisconsin A.D, from 1969 to 1987 so he did not hire Barry Alverez. I know. I know. Me being wrong about something is a shock to all of you. LMAO!!!!
