Probably a prime example of why NFL teams have veered away from franchise backs like Barry and Emmitt. 2 great years in 2005 and 2006 and then straight downhill most likely due to injuries. I do miss the days when great backs were on par with great qbs but I do understand why the change in philosophy.

It seems like I remember a few backs KC had around this time that had a few great seasons then bubkus... Priest Holmes, Larry Johnson, Jamaal Charles... feel like I'm forgetting someone. But ya, it was also around this time teams started using the RB by committee approach. Just goes to show you how special a consistently elite back can be.

Wow!! Cuba looks nice! I may take a visit to Havana and enjoy the lush rainforest... or maybe Guantanamo Bay... I hear it has the nicest locals of the Carribean! Just to get away from this opressive U.S. Government, right!!
Much nicer acccomedations than the old Japanesse internment camp just outside of the mean streets of McGehee Arkansas.

Speaking of the mean streets of McGehee, Arkansas, did you ever hear of the 4 Jones brothers who all played in the NBA and ABA? Caldwell, Major, Charles and Will, some of whom had long careers. Caldwell was the best of the bunch but 4 brothers playing pro basketball is impressive to say the least. None of them wre big scorers but rebounder, Shot blocking, defender type forwards and all went to college at Albany State in Georgia. I knew all about them but until moments ago I had no idea they were from the mean streets of your hometown when I was looking up the spelling of McGehee. LOL

It's crazy to think that sordid part of American poanoia happened just 15 minutes away from where I sit right now... but in the U.S. Government's defense, it was a Japanese spy that took photos and notes on Pearl Harbor before they attacked. You know... I've never been to the "museum" by the Train Station in McGehee. I might go today...
And no, I've never heard of those guys. No one talks about sports from the past here. Especially the 70s. If they talk sports here, its about the coaching... kinda like that H.S. football movie. I'll have to ask around about those players. Wanna bet how many people know/knew who they are/were? If I ask 10 people I bet 1 person would know... not from basketball though... just the names and them being brothers...

I'd be very curious to know if anyone remembers those guys. Caldwell played for 17 seasons in the ABA and NBA so at least 3 of the 4 brothers had more than a cup of coffee in the pros.............and 3 of the 4 had multiple mainstream Topps cards. I always assumed they had grown up in Georgia since all 4 went to Albany State in Georgia. You'd think they would be locally famous but much like card collecting, people's memories are often limited to what happened in last night's game.

Very true. In 1973 when Caldwell was drafted there were roughly 3,500 people in McGehee. Not too far off from todays population. He was born in 1950. And being black in this town I can't imaging what they had to endure as a family. He and his family lived close to where I used to live... very outskirts of town. Basically farming fields. He didnt have to go to McGehee High School. He went to Rohwer (Where the Japanese Internment Camp was lacated) was either closer, which it is, or thats where the black kids had to go. It seems they were very popular in their time... I'll just have to find folks that might have mingled with them... ya know?
If I didnt have so much to do I'd investigate further. This is cool stuff!!

I had to look this up just now on TCDB but that is Tony Dorsett getting the handoff I was not sure if it were Robert Newhouse or him. That makes the 2nd 1978 Fleer card with Tony D. on it which corresponds to his rookie year Topps card
Yessir!! Showed the other Fleer with him on it not too long ago. It could be considered his card cuz he's the only recognizable Cowboys player on it. Have his Topps RC and TL card... need to see what I'm missing of his from '78.
