Picked up this high # SP for my set for $2........I have about 6 more to show in the near future that are in the same shape; centered, nice corners, but Cardinals, which are hard to come by in Memphis.......

Very nice buy! $2 That is crazy! And I'm jealous as I need about 8 or 9 more high numbers foir that set and the Mahaffey is one of them. Unfortunately I also need the McCovey and the legendary Grant Jackson SP #591. Curious if you have the Jackson which has a most interesting back story/

'66 Brock, love this picture.

Do you need this for your set @metsman1986? I put some other 66 Topps in my trade list in signature. Of course all the non-HOF are nicely centered
I don't need that one, thanks for offering! Mainly need the mid/high series #'s on all the 60's sets I'm doing..........It's rare to run across them in decent shape...........

I don't have the Shirley/Jackson and have heard the stories about it...........Don't think I've ever seen one actually (except on eBay).........I have the McCovey but it is badly faded and would like to replace it someday.........

Another '66 high # SP.......Crazy story about Hoerner, went to a game at Riverfront in 1977 and Willie McCovey hit 2 HR's in one inning of Billingham and a grand slam off Hoerner.........I think he retired a month or two later............Died in a farming accident 30 years ago........

Very Nice!!! Now that one I have A PSA 7 as a matter of fact which I got as part of a massive deal several years ago. Very much looking forward to seeing thje rest of your 66 Highs!!!

I might as well ask you this here and if the answer is "yes". I'll PM you. Were you the member who was close to a 1967 Topps set and one of the few cards you needed was a high # Mark Belanger RC?

You buy the card not the potential grade right?
Decided to stop at the LCS and found this in a box by the register. The thing that kills my, that one of the others in this box was a 1957 Topps Ted Williams that was graded a 6. And a 1300 price tag. Just chilling on the counter, not locked up not out of reach. Worker and a couple customers were chatting about celebration boxes and anyone could have just walked off with it. Not that I would, but it would have been a possibility by someone.

I hear you. When my brother and I set up in Cooperstown during Induction Weekends , theft was always A#1 on out minds. Both of us are still very leery of leaving someone unattended with our cards even in a private setting I gotta REALLY, REALLY, REALLY trust you to do that.

Funny thing with all the thefts of sports cards the past few years most seem to involve new, unopened material or Pokemon and rarely is ever vintage anymore,

I have a similar philosophy as yours when it comes to buying autographs. I buy the autograph and not the card it is on. If you buy an expensive autograph on a low seriel numbered card when you can get the same autograph for many, many times less on a cheaper card (ie 1990s Food Issue HOF autos) then you are paying for the card and not the actual autograph.

How bout some super low-end this morning? When I was playing little league Brett was one of my favorite players. We both batted left & threw right, we both always had a big piece of chew (I preferred Double Bubble), we both had a short temper, and we both "fixed" our bats (I just wrapped more grip tape around it since it was aluminum). The coaches put me in left field, though, cuz the ball hardly got out of the infield... I was terrible! lmao

Not as terrible as I was. I took an Oh-for-the-season batting in Little League. I was scared "witless" of getting beaned. Kind of hard to get a hit when I was bailing out on every pitch. I'd like to say I batted rightie but it was more like I stood at the plate like those who actually batted from that side. LMAO

Football was often very painful but it did not scare me like baseball did. So I was football, basketball and track in high school. You can keep baseball, I prefered laying on the high jump mat checking out the girls on the track team. I was much better at that than baseball! Heck, come to think of it, I'd still be prettty good at that!! LMAO!!!!

I was decent in football also. Quarterback for the Falcons and Vikings. If the kid that we NEEDED at QB could make weight I'd probably be tight end. Look up Punt Pass and Kick Cody Crone Garner Elementary Grand Prairie Texas - I haven't looked him up, but there might be something out there on him. He won it all in 3rd grade. Went to school with him from 2nd grade to 12th. He couldv'e been very very good, he just started smokin that herb with Richie Tarr Sophomore year of H.S. Basketball was a joke for my coaches I'm sure. No telling what kinda gaff I'd make. I could barely dribble! We were doing passing drills in practice one night and I passed the ball to my teammate but I hit my coach in the head instead. Luckilly I found swimming at around age 7. Junior year of H.S. I was about .40 seconds from going to state. That's a big time difference in swimming, but still... I got close... then I'd get humiliated in Austin against guys putting up times like 8 seconds faster than mine.

Meh... it's a new day on the East coast... that counts right?

That is a REALLY great card!! I don't think I've ever seen that card even without the autograph on it before. Allen absolutely mauled guys in the NFL so I can only imagine the carnage he caused at the two small colleges he played. (Butte and Sonoma State)

Curious to know what this card books for? Unless it spiked after his death, I'll bet it is ridiculously low.

It is ridiculously low... probably because there are 5000 of them... possibly. I can't believe his penmanship at almost 4500 sigs was stll so clean. It might have taken a few days to do them all, though, and this might be the first sig on day 15. lol
But ya... it books for $20. A perfect example of your motto " you buy the auto, not the card"
