For those collectors out there who insist on trades such as this: their $20 bv in inserts for my $20 HOF GU card of Willie Mays and say it is ok because of book value, make sure you also agree to the trade where I will send you two $10 Lance Berkman GU cards for your $20 GU card of Hank Aaron . . . get the point? BV is good as a general guide but MANY trades can not be judged by BV as well . . .

Agreed. It's even more annoying when it's obvious they are trying to "trade up" and not genuinely trading for something they need for their collection.

People are usually understanding when I tell them I don't want to trade a $50 card for 50 $1 cards, though. Part of the problem is the ridiculous values Beckett puts on some cards...with cards that tons of people would love that sell decently (HOF GU) priced the same as cards that have next to zero demand. Or as you demonstrated, a nice GU card being worth the same as 2 "junk" GU. Do those really have anything resembling the same value?

BV's should probably be raised on a lot of nice GU or severely dropped on junk GU. Take these two cards I own for example:

2002 Upper Deck Peoples Choice Game Jersey #PJJBU Jeromy Burnitz $10
2008 SP Legendary Cuts Generations Dual Memorabilia #CS Steve Carlton/Johan Santana $10

Does anybody on the planet really believe those two cards have the same value? The HOF card isn't from the most popular set or anything, and isn't rare, but neither is the Burnitz. And NOBODY wants the Burnitz card. If I bought a table at a card show and put it out for $1 it would not sell. Maybe it would in New York (it's a Mets card) but good luck getting more than a dollar. That card should have a BV of $3-4 at the most. It's just one example of thousands of cards like this.
