Cooperstown Trip!!!

I LOVE Cooperstown. I've been five times in my life, and each has meant something different. I've actually been lucky enough to participate in the Cooperstown Symposium on Baseball and American Culture. I'm a teacher/scholar-type guy and I still can't believe that I gave a talk IN the Hall of Fame. I'm going this spring, too. You're surrounded by brilliant nerds and they have a townball game and everything. Oh! and we had dinner in the plaque gallery. Amazing.

I agree about Yaz sports. They have a lot of stuff and at reasonable prices. I got a Lew Burdette auto and my first $15 pack of cards. (I splurged.) There was an older gentleman there (the owner's father?) and he and I have different politics, but he was very nice and friendly.

Do go see all of the other shops, too. There's a shop opposite Yaz that has a door signed by all of the Hall of Famers who have come through. They have reasonably priced packs and some autos. But be careful! The places often close "early", around 6-ish during the slow seasons.

The Hall of Fame exhibits do rotate on occasion. For example, there was a baseball-and-cricket exhibit last June. They do keep it fresh while retaining all of the stuff we all want to see. Curious what is there now? http://baseballhall.org/museum/exhibits/overview

There is a hot dog place right across from the Hall of Fame in the basement of the building...the food was pretty good and the vibe seemed fun.

Sigh...now I am even more excited for the conference this year. The area is beautiful. Enjoy your trip!

My wife and I went to Syracus University today to visit her cousin. Tomorrow and Thursday are my HOF days. Really looking forward to seeing all the items and reading the rich history of the game we all love.

I was there many years ago when the kids were real young. We overnighted in a local motel and spent parts of two days there. Lots to see!!! You'll love it! Have fun!

Well, my trip to the Hall was a great one. First, there were only about 6 other people there, so it made for wonderful personal experiance without having to deal with people taking forever at certain exhibits or walking in front of my camera while I'm taking pictures. Was able to do the whole building today. I'm not one to read every item, so it may have taken longer if I did. I took lots of pictures and bought some great souveneirs. I also picked up the April 2012 issue of SMR (PSA Price Guid), so if anyone has any price checks they need, feel free to ask.

Most of the card shops were closed, but the couple that were open had some great items to gaze at. Not much in terms of packs, but lots of singles. I actually didn't buy any cards at all :( Did buy myself a personalized wooden bat from the Cooperstown Bat Company.

Ate at T.J.'s Diner (one the only places open to eat). Food was decent and the portions were really generous. Wanted a hot dog from "Getcha Hot Dog", but they were closed.

Overall, a great day with the wife and the weather was great! 60's with lots of son.

I'll post some photos when I get home.
