Every time I see him or one of his cards, I think of that marathon playoff game in Miami, where Kellen basically had to be helped off the field. Going from heat and humidity and a game that would never end one week, and then going to the freezer in Cincy the next week. Two of the most memorable playoff game ever.

I remember both games well. That game in Cincinnati was the coldest game ever when it came to wind Chill (-32) and fell just short of the Ice Bowl in terms of air temperature (-9 to Green Bay's -13). I would have rather played in the Ice Bowl than the game in Cincy. That wind is just killer when it is cold.

Exactly. My only experience at Lambeauwas 3 years ago for the Vikings v Packers end of season Sunday night game on Jan 3rd of 22. Not only was it cold it was windy so we only watched to first half from our seats. It may have been different had the pack nor totally dominated. But yeah.

1989 was also a landmark year for football cards as before that football cards were worthless. No one wanted them. You could buy 20 box CASES of any 80s Topps product you wanted for less than $100. The lack of interest in football cards even got to me as I started winding down my football buying in 1987 and especially 1988 after years and years of heavy buying. 1989 changed all that with the introductionof Pro Set and Score.

Yup yup! Jimmy Johnson came in and had a crazy idea... crazy ideas change the course of history.
I haven't done the research on this, but this card and part of the set must have come out way after the first half of the set. Herschel has another card in this set wearing a Cowboys uniform.

In 1989 Pro Set came out in 2 series. The first one had varying color borders. Series 2 had bright red (ie: The Aikman and Barry RCS) and the last series with blue borders was a 21 card Mail-In set. That Herschel pic you posted is from that Mail-In set. There were 2 Cowboys in that set........Jessie Soloman and David Palmer.

One cool thing about the 1989 Pro Set and Score was it was the first year players from the current year's draft were included in the set. So those two 1989 sets had RCs from players in both the 1988 (Tim Brown, Thurman Thomas, Mitchell Irving) and 1989 drafts (Barry, Deion, Aikman) while Topps regular issue did not. There were a few instances of players from the current year's draft being in Topps sets (Namath and Ernie Davis) but those examples are few and far between.

I believe this is the first word out of a Viking fans mouth when born...........this made me giggle as I was at a charity golf outing a few weeks ago....had a couple wobble pops, and were drawing for raffle prizes, when a woman was walking up to get her 2nd winnings, there were a few sporadic claps, obviously not really happy for her but being polite, as she walked past me, I let out a 5 second BOOOOOOOO(its so much fun!)....hope i get invited back next year!

Ah yes the Smokey All Star Fire Prevention cards. I think Kirby has one that I would like to get a hold of.

The real question though is his name Smokey Bear OR Smokey The Bear. Similar questions concern Winnie the Pooh, or is it Winnie Pooh....Wait, i guess that doesn't sound as good. HAHAHAHA
