He still worked for the Brewers after that as a scout bur passed away only a few years later. It seems I remember him having a leg amputated due to Diabetis.
He was the AL Batting Champion when he was traded for Rocky Colovito who was the American League home run champion. That was some trade! He also retired with a .303 career batting average which means he'd be a bum in today's "swing hard, throw hard, take nap" game. Hard to believe it is so difficult finding a player's batting average when reading today's statistics not to mention finding wins and losses for pitchers.
Yeah, it was a weird thing because Buck Rodgers had taken them to the playoffs in 81 and the strike shortened season. But they got off to a terrible start and Buck was gone. When Harvey took over it flipped a switch and they had their best season until this year. He was a legend in the Milwaukee area and had a bar he owned in suburban Milwaukee not far from County Stadium. His name has also been lent to the local Little League teams here in West Allis. There is a great documentary Called "Just a Bit Outside " on the 82 team.

One of my absolute favorite non Twins players ever. Just a gamer. Saw a Stat earlier today that one of the years he played every game in a season, 96 or 97 and didn't hit into 1 double play all year. Only player to ever accomplish that feat.

I don't follow hockey (I know the "hockey basics") but do like the cards espacially the older ones. It is shocking how few collectors are interested in hockey. The Hockey Room has not had a post in it for almost 2 months!!! In my last two trades with you (especailly the last one) I really hit your hockey trade lists especailly the stars page. You just don't see hockey cards like you do the other three major sports so they tend to interest me.
I always liked the patch cards from hockey alot more than FB. Since I have no clue as to any hockey players except ex-Stars (From Dallas) and Crosby/Overchkin/Lemieux i never ventured into that realm. Hockey collectors are intense tho!!
When you THINK you're done building a set (team set in my case) you better check what's considered a RC for that set! Spent almost a year hunting down the Moose card I didn't realize this card and Stephen McGee's AU/RC were part of the set. Sneaky! Luckily they weren't any good, ever, so I was actually able to truly complete this set shortly after realizing that.

Hockey was my second card collecting venture. I started collecting Baseball in the mid-1980s and I started picked up cheap hockey packs of OPC and Topps at flea markets a few years later in the late 1980s-early 1990s. I still remember my first hockey card - a 87-88 Topps John Tonelli that a kid gave me in school. It helped that some of my favorites video games on NES and SNES were NHL games.
In the 2000s, I used to be part of a site called "UltimateCardBoard" that was mostly Hockey collectors (until the site died off). I made tons of awesome trades there. Nowadays, SCF has a ton of Hockey guys, but International shipping has really killed a lot of Hockey trading. I used to make trades with Canada, Europe, and even Russia. Shipping a bubble mailer internationally starts at $20 now. It's harder to find US Hockey traders but they are out there. I am always happy when I can scrape together hockey trades. Mainly, I just buy a lot of my Hockey cards either in retail stores, Ebay, or COMC.
If anyone is interested in trading for some hockey, I've got a bunch to trade! ha!
