Wow! That is an awesome card. A legendary and unigue player for sure. Throw in the awesome Oiles uniforms and this card is a 10 out of 10.

He made the 75th and 100th Anniversary All Time Teams as well as the all decade teams of both the 1970s and 1980s but yet is not in the Pro Football Hall of Fame..
Wonder if he would want to do Dancing with the Stars...a lot of athletes have placed high in the competition and he some slick moves back in the day....

come on - the banana yellow Fleers are hands down the ugliest set in cards. And the horrendous Donruss red with black splatters are 2nd. Throw in those 86 Topps FB with the diagonal stripes over green, mash them all together, and you get really ugly 25 Donruss RR.

compare it for example to the sublime 67 Topps baseball.
As bad as all of those mentioned designs are, nothing, and I mean nothing topps ( see what I did there?) 1995 Fleer. Just Saying

Man o' man did this guy have himself a game yesterday!! #4 on the All-Time Rushing TD List. Could very well move into #3 by the end of the season.... let's play a game.... he's got 122 (#4). Marcus Allen has 123 (#3). If Henry gets 3 more in the next game he'll be at 125, 20 shy of Tomlinson who sits at #2 comfortably with 145. How many more seasons does Henry have? He'll be 32 in a week and has been in the league 10 seasons. He's averaged 13 TD's over those 10 seasons... if he plays 2 more seasons he'll be 34, and assuming he gets 3 TD's next week and 13 the next 2 seasons (each) he'd be sitting nicely at the #2 spot with 151 Tuddies... only 13 shy of tying Emmitt at 164. That could all be "Best case scenario".... If he goes 0-fer next week he'll need 23 to tie Tomlinson and 24 take the #2 spot. There's a breaking point for everyone, what if he just loses his mojo and can't find it (ala Austin Powers) and tanks the next few seasons "only" getting 10 rushing TD's in each of his next 2 seasons? He would be sitting at 142 Touchdowns for his career. 3rd behind Emmitt and LaDainian, with 3 more needed to reach #2. Does he have 3 more seasons in him? Hard to say... he's 6' 2'' and 252lbs. That's alot of beef to be performing at his expected level going into season 13, if he gets to it at all...
Personally, I'd love to see him tear it up next week and move to #3. He'd be salivating for 20+ and could very well will his mind and body to 146 in 2 or, more likely, 3 seasons. I don't think he'll get the crown of All-Time Leader, though. There can only be one King in that regard, and his name is Emmitt Smith.

That was great to see him destroy the vaunted Packers defense on Sat night. (Vaunted if only in the minds if Wisconsinites)

Now that's a really interesting question, if limited to a collectible purchase. Maybe a 1914 Ruth RC or a Cracker Jack Joe Jackson or a Mantle rookie or a National Chicle Bronco Nagurski. Something old in the highest grade possible.
I would probably purchase a signed authenticated copy of Kirby's 84 fleer update or his 1983 Fritch Visallia Oaks minor league card, both of which I've seen on the bay for 15k plus. Or someone also had an uncut sheet of said minor league set. Which would also be a cool collectable.

As far as a non hobby purchase, perhaps the Swedish Bikini Team, in peak 90s frozen in time and ageless....( A guy can dream right???)

You may have something there. I cannot think of a worse design than the 1995 Fleer Baseball and Football issues. And to think someone got paid to come up with that design!!!

I can see it now... an intern goes into the bosses office around 2pm, he's had a bad day so he had a few belts of scotch after lunch. The intern says he has a great idea. The boss says, "Let's hear it young man!" And the intern says, " How about we do a card with the player's measurements on THE FRONT! AND put where they were born!" The boss sits back in his chair and takes another sip of scotch and thinks, then blurts out, "I LOVE IT!! Print as many as possible!"
......That's how it goes in my mind at least...

Dom D.jpgI posted this in a another group and thought I'd share it here.

Back in 2006, I purchased a boxed set of autographed cards from the Philadelphia Athletics History Society. The set, called Diamond Signatures, contained 45 signed cards from retired players, including Hall of Famers George Kell and Bobby Doerr. Even then the set cost approximately $350, and only 100 boxed sets were produced. Those boxed-set cards carry the statement on the back:

“Congratulations! This is an authentic autographed Diamond Signatures limited edition card, personally signed by the player.”

What I didn’t know at the time was that the Society also provided 800 cards to each player for their personal use as a thank-you for signing. Those cards are different on the back:

“Collect them all! There was less than 800 cards produced for this player’s use.”

Once I learned these existed, I began writing to every player, hoping to assemble a full 45-card run of the player-issued versions. The process turned out to be a joy in itself. I ended up with wonderful pen-pal experiences, most memorably with the late, great Original Frank Thomas and the always kind and welcoming Virgil Trucks.

Within a couple of years I had managed to track down most of the set. But one card eluded me year after year: Dom DiMaggio. I wrote Dom several times over the years, including his $20 signing fee, and each time his gracious wife Emily replied that she couldn’t locate any of the cards. Once she even sent me a personally signed photo of the two of them, a gesture I’ve always cherished.

Well, after all these years, a copy finally surfaced on eBay and I got it. The quest is officially over!

I’m also a proud owner of the 2009 Diamond Signatures boxed set (the one that sold for around $500), although that later release sadly didn’t include cards given out by the players themselves.

Hatboro housed the Philadelphia Athletics Historical Society museum for years before closing it in 2013 due to financial difficulties. The museum sold off the memorabilia and/or moved some to the Philadelphia Sports Hall of Fame.

I have a nice stack of these if anyone is interested in trading.

LOL. I understand in a competitive market you'd want to do something to differeniate yourself.............but not in a bad way!!

Turns out Fleer did the same thing in their 1995-96 Fleer basketball issue as well. Fleer did not put out a regular hockey set that year although they did produce some other hockey sets that season. So the winner for the best regular issue Fleer card in 2885 was HOCKEY since they did not make one of those God awful sets for that sport.

Congrats on finally getting your white whale!

I think I got a 2009 Diamond Signature of Bob Feller from you many years ago in a trade. It has a green border and I know this because it is sitting right here next to me. I'm pretty sure you were stationed in Italy at the time when we made several trades.

Fast forward 8 months.... the boozing executive strolls into the now "Lead Designers" office and casually asks, "Who signed off on the Fleer set?" The Lead replied, "You did, sir. You told me to print as many as possible..." Looking at the ground and slowly nodding his head, the boss asked, "How many did you print?" Confused, the Designer tells him in a mottled voice, "5 million per sport." "WHAT IN GODS NAME WERE YOU THINKING BOYO?! THAT LINE IS SELLING AT 70% LESS THAN THE 94s!!" His bloated face red and bursting he shouts, "GET OUT OF MY BUILDING NOW!!!" Ashamed and embarrassed he packed a small box and made the million stare march to his car, got in, and sighed. When he raised his head he noticed a sign in the distance. He recognized the logo and immediately raced to the building. He fixed himself up as best he could and walked briskly through the front doors. The cheerful receptionist greeted him, "Welcome to Collector's Edge, how can I help you...?"

.......and the rest is history.
