I don't recall him being pictured on this topic. But why would he be? He was only the third player in MLB history (now there are 7) to have 500 home runs and 3,000 hits after Mays and Aaron. Off to the commons box with Eddie!View attachment 120065
So the skeptic in me says this is the first Eddie Murray card posted in this thread. I could be wrong, but dont recall seeing one as we approach 10,000 posts in this thread. The variation that all 88 record breakers were going to look like.
Right, and played a lot of 1st base even into the mid 90s. Wasn't a media darling, but he was steady, consistent, and a team leader. If i had to pick 2 first basemen from the 80s Murray and Kent Hrbek would be my choices over Mattingly. McGwire, Joyner and Clark.I don't recall him being pictured on this topic. But why would he be? Very under appreciated player right here.View attachment 120065

Id swear that I have posted an Eddie Murray card or two in this thread. Youre assignment, if you choose to accept is to find them.I don't recall him being pictured on this topic. But why would he be? I accept the challenge and I don't care if it takes Kirbyfan34 ten years to find out if you did or not.Id swear that I have posted an Eddie Murray card or two in this thread. Youre assignment, if you choose to accept is to find them.
So what are you saying here???I accept the challenge and I don't care if it takes Kirbyfan34 ten years to find out if you did or not.

as a fellow procrastinator someone is probably researching this as we speak...How about Bob Gibson with 13 losses and an ERA of only 2.44? Looks like LA and SF had his (or at least the Cardinals) number that year, Not as bad as in 1968 when he had 12 losses and an astounding 1.12 ERA, He only had 20 complete games in 1966 though compared to 28 in both 1968 and 1969. He obviously was slacking in 1966.Here's one for today!

HA! Some Ner'do'well named Kirbyfan34 proved you wrong on your claim of being the first to post a card of Eddie Murray the other day. He must really have it out for you to show you up that way!!!!!A little birdie may have found an Eddie Murray card on page 15....oopps
I've recently been listening to the Road To Cooperstown podcast and it's amazing how many players who have done the show, mention things like not specializing too soon/playing other sports/doing other things to save wear and tear on arms. John Smoltz, Fergie Jenkins, Joe Mauer, Jack Morris, Cal Ripken....like I will die on this hill, that being gifted athletically and able to excell in multiple sports helps you down the road in the one you decide to pursue. Jenkins mentioned that both he and Bob Gibson played in the off season with the Harlem Globetrotters (something that today's contracts would never allow.) Heck, I even remember in the early 80's have a group of Vikings players including Ahmad Rashad, Ted Brown, Tommy Kramer, Joe Sensor coming to town to play a charity basketball game against the Police department. Imagine if Aaron Rogers or Tom Brady wanted to do something like that....How about Bob Gibson with 13 losses and an ERA of only 2.44? Looks like LA and SF had his (or at least the Cardinals) number that year, Not as bad as in 1968 when he had 12 losses and an astounding 1.12 ERA, He only had 20 complete games in 1966 though compared to 28 in both 1968 and 1969. Pretty strange how someone like Gibson, with antiquated conditioning and dietary plans, could have that much stamina and toughness to throw that many complete games while today's souped up spider monkeys can't go more than 5 or 6 innings without having to leave the game and take a nap.
So rude of him.... I should dm the fool and give him a piece of my mind!!!HA! Some Ner'do'well named Kirbyfan34 proved you wrong on your claim of being the first to post a card of Eddie Murray the other day. He must really have it out for you to show you up that way!!!!!
gotta be a cowboy what with tc84 n all - emmitt smith or michael irvinSo rude of him.... I should dm the fool and give him a piece of my mind!!!
On a side note, I think it would be a fun contest to guess which player has been posted the most in this thread to celebrate the upcoming 10,000th post.
I'm going to say the #1 player is Marvin Harrison and #2 is Michael Irvin. Thankfully there are two real Americans who post a lot of football here in Hodee and the guy from "The mean streets of McGehee,". Scobes posts a lot of football as well so there are at least three non commies here.So rude of him.... I should dm the fool and give him a piece of my mind!!!
