So, something to consider...

What value does Topps give you when they replace an unfulfilled redemption?

Is it the current book value of the card or is it what the value of the card was when the redemption was submitted?

The reason why I ask is that I have an overdue Eric Hosmer 2012 Topps Gypsy Queen autogrpah. When I redeemed it over 23 weeks ago it's value was $60. Now, after a pretty average season the value of the autograph dropped 50% to $30.

Do I have a right to ask for a replacement with a value of $60?

Has anyone had any experience with this kind of situation?

Any insight would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Melissa

Recently, I opted for a replacement of my Casey McGehee 2011 Triple Threads Auto #/18 that wasn't going to be fulfilled. Topps sent me 2010 Topps Chrome Stephen Strasburg Rookie Autograph as a "current value" replacement. Obviously, the Strasburg is worth more than the McGehee would ever be.

I Think it's hit or miss. In your case, I would definitely call them and see what they can work out.

I was on the wrong side of a recent replacement. I had a redemption for a 2011 Topps Chrome Freddie Freeman auto (current bv $20). I just sent it in last month and received a Chris Sale auto (bv $12) in its place. I guess I should have redeemed the Freeman sooner.

You're at their mercy, IMO. Calling customer service on an item you haven't even received is a waste of time, IMO. Until THEY determine they cannot get the item signed, declare it unavailable and send you replacement value, it's premature. There is zero chance they let YOU decide what they send you.

I did receive an email from Topps about this redemption because it's past their 15-week processing time.

This is the statement that I guess I based my original post on~

If you no longer wish to wait for the redemption card, please contact our Consumer Relations team in order to place a substitution request for a card of equal Beckett value.

When they mention equal Beckett value do they take into effect that a player's value can increase or in this case decrease significantly in 15-week's time (it's actually been 24 weeks because they sent me this email on September 6)?

Thanks to everyone for their input. I am not really optimistic that Topps will take the card's original value into effect. However, this has solidified my decision to sell most redemptions on Ebay.

Take Care,
Melissa

You will get whatever they send you. I have had high-BV cards replaced with multiple low-value cards equaling the value. Don't expect up and down BV swings to be incorporated much.

Topps is the worst redemption company in my experience, and that is saying something when Upper Deck is ahead of you. The best is Panini, even though they take forever, they have always come through with the card or great replacements.
