AS well as paratrooper and NFL HOFer Ernie Stautner. There has to be a ton of these guys but I cannot think of any off the top of my head.
Those 50s Landrys are very $$. I've been chasing an affordable one in acceptable condition for ages. You could always go for the 64 and 65 Phila Cowboys play cards, those are reasonable Landrys.
There are alot more than I thought... of course 90% are from before 1980 or so.

On the back of the card in the desription of his performance on April 10, they mention "5 Safeties". Does that mean hits? I've never heard that term before.

Ha! I thought the same thing when I read it. Yeah, I believe "safeties" are hits in this instance. That's definitely an older term.
I pulled up the box score, and, sure enough, Roberts allowed 5 hits that game:

In a feat that never happens now days both pitchers threw complete games. I'm not sure that is even a stat anymore, certainly not an important one.

Definitely, CGs are a thing of the past. The fewest amount of complete games (28) ever thrown was last year in 2024.
Good news! Already 23 have been thrown in 2025!
As a point of comparison, in 1959, there were 730 complete games thrown! Dang what a difference!

That is stunning. Today's pitchers are babied and yet they still get hurt at a high rate. And to think we are not that far removed from the workhorse pitchers........Clemens, Johnson, Maddux etc etc.
I just looked this up very quickly so I may have missed someone but Robin Roberts looks to have the most complete games in a season in the modern era with 33 in 1953. And looky here.........he was still throwing complete games 7 years later which is shown on the card you just posted.
Will have to break down and get some hated Steelers, like Rocky Bleier. When I found out my step dad also served in Vietnam, I asked him if he knew Rocky. You know cause my 12 year old brain could not come to terms with both being in Nam and not knowing each other. I believe that Rocky now lives in or around Appleton WI
