Mariano's RC is the least likely looking card of a future HOFer. 6'4", 168 lbs? Wow1 No one was confusing him with Bo Jackson! But he ended up being an All TIme Great.
Right? The couple games that I saw him pitch in he wasn't even the closer yet. Believe at least for one of them Wetteland was still with NY. That would be a nice addition to the auto project so if anyone has an extra Mariano signature...

Correct. The first World Series Championship or two in the 1990s Mariano was the set up guy. THe Yankees had it set up with Graeme Lloyd as the 7th inning guy, Mariano the 8th and Wetteland was the closer. When Wetteland moved on via free agency or trade, Rivera took over the closer's role and the rest is history. Wetteland was the 1996 World Series MVP so losing him was a big deal back then,

For the life of me I could not remember the other set up man back then along with Rivera. I also could not remember which guy was the 7th inning guy and which was the 8th. I remembered he was from Australia so I searched "MLB pitchers from Australia" and there Graeme Lloyd was! Could not remember his name but did remember his country of orgin. Go figure.

I know the Rivera... had to look up Chipper's. Classic!! That was the look I guess for '92ish... I really like the braided leather belt that's way too long so its wrapped around itself... that's one of those "what was I thinking!?!" pictures...

That outfit Chipper was wearing in that photo might fly in Grand Prairie but not around here, You get caught wearing somethiong like that here, you'll be sent packing and maybe even on a rail..............maybe with feathers...and tar!

I have a set of the 1992 Bowman and several dups of the Mariano RC but had no idea what the Chipper card looked like until now. I never chased it because it was a pricey 2nd year card but after seeing it, I'm glad I didn't. LMAO!!!

My cousin was a big Chipper Jones fan. I'll have to ask if he has one of those class photo cards...
Ya, the neighborhood I was in in '92 you would see that look... about 10 miles North... NO WAY! Not even a mile away in the Trailwood neighborhood... I lived in the Westchester neighborhood until I was 11 and me and my Mom had to move to Trailwood... those 2 neighborhoods co-mingled into one middle school. Luckily I was already part of the Trailwood crew by then... they were the ruffians of South Grand Prairie. lol But I still had alot of Westchester friends too... that kinda continued into H.S. I was part of several cliques... Sorry to go on that tangent... interesting social complexities going on just a few miles apart!

I'll bet you that Charley Taylor never wore a get up like that. Kerry Wood? Maybe. Charley taylor? No way LMAO!!!

I dunno 'bout Kerry Wood... he was in way North Grand Prairie almost Irving and just East of Oak Cliff... so he might not have been as preppy as some of us SGP'ers. if u look at a map of GP you'd understand... and no way Charley wore that ridiculous get-up!! I'll bet he wore slacks, tucked button-up shirt, possible tie, and the nicest black shoes he had... maybe his Letterman jacket from late January to mid February when it was cold enough for it in GP! lol

Yup, each one is en Espanol... and I actually know who those guys are! lol
Playing devils advocate here... if there's an "A" and a "B" variant to each card how can each card have the "VAR" designation to it?
...Ok, I looked at Beckett and they have the Variants like normal - as #1 and #1B... and so on through the set. Not sure of the value difference, if any, since I only have Football OPG.

Jumping in late here but wasn't Mike Stanton a big set up guy on those 90s Yankees? and Jeff Nelson?

For this guy, NFL definitely stood for Not For Long... 5 months after being drafted in the 4th round (not horrible) he was waived... then picked back up soon after for the practice squad. A month later he was on the active roster returning punts and kick-offs.... he was even in a few games. Two months later he was cut again... and re-signed 4 days later. Finally The Cowboys put him out of his misery 3 days later and cut him for good... this all happened in 8 months! Good 'ol compassionate Bill Parcells... he's just a big teddy bear!
