Nice! I was shocked to see he kicked 2 50 yard field goals in 1958 which was no easy feat given the heavy uniforms and tough outdoor field conditions. So he was a fullback, end and kicker. Pretty versatile player! Here's that '60

What is that card going for now? I always thought that was an iconic card with Wilt, The Conquistadors and him listed as "Coach/center". Awesome!I only noticed the Conquistadors a few years ago when I cam across one of the coolest cards of all time - Wilt Chamberlain as a Conquistador. They go for a lot, so I'm on the hunt for an affordable one.
I'm working on this set. Got any doubles to trade?
I see the Wilt Q card on ebay auctions and a nice one is never less than fifty bucks. NM level always over a hundred. A graded 10 lists around 15K.What is that card going for now? I always thought that was an iconic card with Wilt, The Conquistadors and him listed as "Coach/center". Awesome!
My only specific memory of the Conquistadors (aka the Q's for short) outside of my obsessive reading of Basketball Digest and The Sporting News, was watching the game where Dr. J. scored a career high 63 points against them. I got home very late from a road basketball game and flipped on the TV and lo and behold the Nets/Qs were on!!!! That game was a complete shootout and it went into multiple OTs before the Qs prevailed very late at night. The Nets were absolutely loaded but the cellar dwelling Q's had a bunch of cool players like Bo Lamar, Stew Johnson and Travis "Machine Gun" Grant and they prevailed that night. I was so tired by the time it was over but I stayed with it until the end.
Can you imagine having a player with the nicname "Machine Gun" these days? The media reaction wouldhave been similar to The Toecutter's..........
I've got that one - had it since I was a kid.Here's that '60
Thank you for the knowledge! Wanted to start a project to see how many HOF autos I could get for $25...went out of my budget to $26 for this...I cheat and don't count shipping...Never heard of he Buffalo Braves before? I'm shocked!! LOL
The Braves became the San Diego Clippers in the late 70s who are now the Los angeles Clippers. The Braves were actaully pretty good for a while and actually had an NBA MVP in Bob McAdoo. Man, I can name more players off those Braves teams than I can name on any team in the NBA currently...........because I'm cool like that! LMAO!!
70's basketball rocked with two pro leagues competing with one another and a ton of team names that are now obscured in the dustbin of history. Besides the Braves the NBA had the Kansas City-Omaha Kings, the New Orleans Jazz, and the Baltimore/Capital/Washington Bullets for starters. But the ABA took the cake with more oddly named teams like the Memphis Tams/Pros/Sounds, the San Diego Conquistadors, the Carolina Cougars, Kentuclky Colonels and on and on and on. The best team was the Miami Floridians who had hawt ball girls clad in bikinis courtside...........which may interest shallow people like Metsman1986. But I'm above noticing that sort of thing as has been well documnted on the board

Glad to see the rise in price on that card. Just one of the coolest cards ever all things considered.I see the Wilt Q card on ebay auctions and a nice one is never less than fifty bucks. NM level always over a hundred. A graded 10 lists around 15K.
Does the name Joba Chamberlain mean anything to you?Any time I can run my yap about obscure pro basketball facts, especially the ABA, I'll gladly take advantage of the opportunity! LOL
It has been discussed on here before about buying the autograph or the card it is on. I prefer buying a certifed autograph of a player for a low price instead of buying the same player's autograph on a card because it is a low serial number. Manufactured scarcity is a joke and does not interest me at all. You buying that Marichal auto for $25 (plus shipping LOL) is a great buy and I'd have done that in a heartbeat!
It is insane how one can buy a Juan Marichal autograph for $25 while others are chasing Jasson Dominquez autographs, with his career .207 batting average, 6 career HRs and 11 RBI for over a grand!?!?! And he couldn't get off the bench in the World Series when the Yankees were getting crushed? Fools and their money.
I think he was a Yankees pitching prospect who was hyper protected by the team by limiting his number of pitches. They called this over caution the "Joba Rules" and his big time prospect status fizzled out fairly quickly. There was so much talk about these "Joba Rules" that it seemed the Yankees thought they had Cy Young, Koufax, Ryan and Clemens all wrapped up into one mega prospect. If not for the "Joba Rules, I would never have remembered him.Does the name Joba Chamberlain mean anything to you?
And so another overhyped prospect fades into the past, taking card speculators along with him.I think he was a Yankees pitching prospect who was hyper protected by the team by limiting his number of pitches.
