out of the 6 players pictured on the AL card, only 1 is a hof. The other 5 had a few good years - Maris, Colavito, Cash, Gentile and Wagner.

Thanks... not what I was referring to tho. Im curious why the NL has 4 black players and 1 Puerto Rican... while the AL has 4 white players and 1 black player... is it all a coincidence?
Boston was notoriously reluctant to have black players. I think Detroit kind of fell into a similar category. Off the top of my head I can only name a couple of black Yankees, Elston Howard and Al Downing. There may be more but I can't think of any.

Interesting... 12 years after Robinson did Boston realize they couldn't ignore progress any longer. Wasn't it in Boston not long ago that the fans were chanting (in unison) racial slurs at Yankees players? I'm talkin like 10 years ago...
Not sure about that but I do remember Barry Bonds said he'd never play in Boston after hearing other black players experiences there.

Boston may very well have been the last mlb team with a black player - I think it was Pumpsie Green.
Boston has issues... I read an article that said Torii Hunter had a no-trade clause to Boston in every contract he ever signed. He says he had been called the N-word at least 100 times while playing games at Fenway, sometimes by little kids.
Haven't looked into this but just by casual observation I'm willing to bet the Patriots have the least number of black players on their team in the NFL.
And the Celtics... well it seems to me it took them alot longer than other teams to have a majority of black players on their roster like every other NBA team has.
...so maybe we end the racial talk now. I know I brought it up, wish I didn't. Let's try to get back to light-hearted goofy conversations. This subject is interesting, but maybe on a different forum. Agreed?

I feel like the newest player on the list was Ben Sheets, whose career was over by 2010 or 11.
So surprised to discover Ray Lewis only had agrand total of 16 cards put out in his rookie year!
